Today is the Discovery Partners Institute Digital Scholars Gallery Walk and students put the finishing touches on their presentations yesterday, demonstrating dedication and hard work right up to the last minute! Emmanuel Oginni, a rising college freshman who presented in Foundations of Computer Science & Coding today, commended his classmates for fostering a welcoming environment and shared, “The class was great - I learned teamwork and communication skills, and the instructors were always there to help.” Jay, a rising high school senior who took Data Science Discovery, stated, “I learned a lot and since I’m a hands-on learner, it made me very proud of myself to learn on my own without having the instructors make everything really obvious for me. Overall, it was a fun class and I would definitely recommend it to others.” Less than an hour until the final presentations are exhibited! Based on the outstanding work displayed so far, visitors are going to be very impressed by what these scholars have accomplished! #DiscoverDPI #StudentSuccess

Thrilled to announce that I've secured second place in the Inter-University Data Structures and Algorithms Competition! DECODE 2024. This rigorous contest challenged participants from top universities across the country, testing our ability to design efficient algorithms and optimize complex data structures. This experience has been incredibly rewarding, pushing me to: • Developed a novel approach to a particularly challenging NP-hard problem, reducing its time complexity significantly. • Collaborated with and competed against some of the brightest minds in computer science. • Strengthened my skills in critical thinking, time management, and performing under pressure. • Gained deeper insights into cutting-edge DSA concepts and their real-world applications. #DSA #AlgorithmicExcellence #ComputerScience #UniversityAchievement #CodingCompetition #TechTalent

Calling all future tech superstars! Our junior class has been captivated by the power of algorithms, and they're hungry to learn more. 🤖 In our computer science class, we've been exploring how algorithms shape the digital world around us - from the social media feeds that curate our online experiences to the recommendation engines that guide our choices. The students have been fascinated by the hidden logic that drives so many of the systems we rely on every day. Now, they're eager to dive deeper. If your child is intrigued by the algorithms that govern our modern lives, encourage them to apply for our computer science elective. They'll get hands-on experience translating complex problems into accessible pseudocode, learning to identify potential biases, and optimizing algorithmic performance. This is their chance to gain invaluable technical skills and digital literacy - essential tools for navigating the 21st century. The future is algorithmic, and our juniors are ready to be the pioneers who harness its potential. #AlgorithmicLiteracy #DigitalLiteracy #ComputerScience #STEM #FutureTechLeaders #TechSkills #ProblemSolving #CriticalThinking #Pseudocode #AlgorithmicTransparency #AlgorithmicBias #DataAnalytics #TechEducation #JuniorClass #HighSchool #StudentOpportunities #SkillBuilding #FutureReady #CareerPrep #SchoolPrograms #ApplyNow

First semester lab works were fun. I can't help but smile 😊 at the memories of my lab classes. They were not just about learning and experimenting, but also about fun 🎉, exploration 🚀, and building lasting relationships 🍧 . The interaction with our teachers was truly enriching. Their passion for the subject was infectious, making every class an exciting journey into the world of science 🔬. They didn't just teach us - they inspired us, challenged us, and encouraged us to think beyond the textbooks 📚. The tasks were challenging, no doubt, but that's what made them fun! Each experiment was like a puzzle 🧩, waiting to be solved. The thrill of finally getting an experiment right after numerous trials is something I'll never forget. But what made the lab classes truly special was the opportunity to explore new paths 🛤️. We were encouraged to ask questions, to be curious, and to venture into the unknown. This freedom to explore and learn at our own pace made the lab classes a lot more interesting. Looking back, I realize that these lab classes were not just about grades or passing the semester. They were about learning, growing, and most importantly, having fun. Here's to more such exciting and fun-filled semesters! 🥂🎉 #data #machinelearning #lab #learningjourney

Algorithm bias Lies, damn lies and statistics Data is essentially statistics. Unless all the data is present bias is inevitable. My first degree in geography utilising GIS - geographical information systems - focussed on data analysis and decoding the data to assess real outcomes without relying on data sets alone. #algorithmbias #datascience #Ai

❓ Have you heard about algorithmic bias? Having graduated with a high 2.1 in Computer Science from the School of Computing at Newcastle University this summer, my son Max Abimbola will soon be starting his career as a software engineer. And for years, he has shared with me his frustrations surrounding algorithmic bias. I cannot pretend to understand how coding works......... 🙄 But I can certainly understand how this form of bias happens. We all have our inherent biases. And when it comes to writing computer code, those biases are very easy to pass on. Algorithmic bias is caused by one of three things..... - input bias - training bias - programming bias My friend Christina Blacklaws (she/her) talked about this during her excellent TEDX talk in 2020. This bias is problematic because it can lead to unfair outcomes, based on wrongful assumptions. And this flies in the face of all our efforts towards more equitable decision-making. ❓ What are your thoughts on algorithmic bias? Do share in the comments section below! #BiasInTech #Coding #ComputerScience _____________________ Link to Christina Blacklaws (she/her)'s TEDx talk: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eRvPG7gx

I'm still on cloud nine! Codecraft Works just had the distinct pleasure of working with 200 middle school students to deliver a truly unique learning experience. The focus of this camp goes far beyond just learning to code. We focus on helping students identify their passions (what makes a middle schooler tick?), peer collaboration, real-world problem solving, and the importance of designing before you code. 📝 We have them conduct empathy interviews, walk them through the design thinking framework, and ask them to share their dreams. The result? Mind-blowing software prototype innovations that are meaningful to them, and potentially to others as well! Here's a quote from one of our partners: "Thank you for a wonderful coding experience with the students. We need a 10-point scale rating out of 5." Incredible outcomes indeed! #codecamp #STEMeducation #futureinnovators #problemsolvers #learningbydoing #empathy #collaboration #studentengagement #STEAMeducation #21stcenturyskills #codecrafters National Science Foundation (NSF) Brevard Public Schools Codecraft Works Kathryn Creedy Raj Bhargava
