Happy Labor Day! 🧑🏻🏭🧑🏾⚕️👩🔧🤱🏻👷🏿♂️🧑🚒👩🏿🏭👩⚖ In many countries, Labor Day is celebrated today (in Italian: Festa dei Lavoratori). Surely, we are all grateful for a holiday 🎉, but let's take a moment to reflect on its significance and its origins. Labor day is the celebration of of the achievements of workers 🛠️ in advancing society. Today we might take an 8 hour working day for granted, but to get there, labor movements went to many struggles and endless fights. An 8 hour working day implies 8 hour working ⚒️, 8 hour recreation 🎳, 8 hour rest 🛌. So why the first of May? The 1st of May 1867 was when the 8-hour workday was first introduced in the state of Illinois 🌽(US). From there, it was gradually implemented throughout the US as well as Europe. Did you know that the Spanish King Philip II 🇪🇸, already introduced an 8 hour workday back in 1594? 4 hours in the morning and 4 hour in the afternoon, so that workers would be protected from the sun 🌞, ensuring their health and conservation. We are grateful 🙏🏾 🙏 for the commitment and dedication of our employees who work tirelessly to drive our businesses forward. Not just today, always. We believe it is important to recognize every single day that companies (and economies) only exist thanks to the hard work of employees, and this is never to be taken for granted! The clock is always ticking. Yesterday, I was winding down the weekend and watched a short video testimonial offering the perspective that we are given 86,400 seconds each day. This morning I decided to run some numbers. These numbers probably aren't accurate to the second (the averages are taken from a variety of sources including The New York Times and CDC) and obviously vary by the person. But, each day we're alive we're all still given 86,400 seconds. Though we wish we could have the freedom to use every second has we would like, we don't. And, unfortunately, clock is already running. But, when view our days down to the second we could all likely ask ourselves "Where can I rebalance the seconds in my day?" - Where can I convert seconds scrolling on my phone to seconds spent volunteering? - How can I convert time watching a new streaming series to learning something new or cultivating a creative outlet? - How can I maximize my workday output to decrease my overtime or cut the time I work while at home to reset, recharge or reconnect with family? There's no playbook for doing it correctly because it varies by the person, but there is a clock counting down to gently remind us to use our seconds wisely.

Labour Day reflections 💭 I took a walk on the beach this morning, thinking about what this holiday really means for us as business owners. It's ironic, isn't it? A day that celebrates workers' rights and the 8-hour workday ... while most of us are still tied to our laptops at 9pm 😅 But here's what hit me: → The original Labour Day advocates fought for better working conditions → They wanted sustainable work practices → They believed in work-life boundaries Yet here we are, years later, and I see so many brilliant business owners who: → Can't take a real holiday → Miss family dinners → Wake up at 2am worried about their business The truth? Your business should work FOR you, not the other way around. This Labour Day, I challenge you to think about: ⁓ What systems could automate your repeated tasks? ⁓ Which responsibilities could you delegate? ⁓ Where are you the bottleneck in your own business? Because the real celebration of Labour Day isn't about working harder - it's about working smarter.
