As teachers and school leaders, we all know the importance of setting the right tone and building connections with students from the very first days of the school year. While classic get-to-know-you activities have their place, I want to share a set of Week 1 activities and questions that go deeper - sparking meaningful discussions, assessing student skills, and laying the groundwork for literacy-rich instruction throughout the year.

Through the leadership of our Principal, Roberto Silva, and other instructional leaders at our Carman Buckner Elementary, we want students to understand the importance of social emotional learning. This week's video targets students using self management techniques to prevent bullying or physical altercations.
