#WOMEN #NOW #DEMOCRACY #WOMENSRIGHTS #HUMAN TRAFFICKING #DOMESTIC ABUSE I know that there is no way that women across America from ALL walks of life, regardless of political party affiliation will not stand by and let their "hard earned" rights be taken away from them. There is no doubt in my mind that WE are prepared to stand-up and fight for our rights. If you agree, here is a link to a conference which begins today and ends tomorrow. The title of my session is: How Human Trafficking Prohibits Women from Participating in the Promise of Freedom and Democracy and What Women Can Do About it. There are two days’ worth of pertinent topics happening of which you need the information. The conference fee is $65 or whatever you can afford to pay. Please share the link.

Clinical psychologist,Mental Health Advocate (mNPA, mNACP), Child & Women’s Rights Activist, SDG 3&5
It breaks my heart that despite our continued fight for human rights, we still wake up to the devastating news of violence against women. Last week was filled with sadness and despair as we lost Christiannah Idowu and Rebecca Cheptegei to this senseless violence. 𝓣𝓱𝓮𝓼𝓮 𝔀𝓸𝓶𝓮𝓷 𝓱𝓪𝓭 𝓻𝓲𝓰𝓱𝓽𝓼—𝓻𝓲𝓰𝓱𝓽𝓼 𝓽𝓸 𝓵𝓲𝓯𝓮, 𝓭𝓲𝓰𝓷𝓲𝓽𝔂, 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓼𝓪𝓯𝓮𝓽𝔂, 𝔂𝓮𝓽 𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓲𝓻 𝓿𝓸𝓲𝓬𝓮𝓼 𝔀𝓮𝓻𝓮 𝓼𝓲𝓵𝓮𝓷𝓬𝓮𝓭 𝓫𝔂 𝓪𝓬𝓽𝓼 𝓸𝓯 𝓫𝓻𝓾𝓽𝓪𝓵𝓲𝓽𝔂. 𝓔𝓽𝓮𝓻𝓷𝓪𝓵 𝓻𝓮𝓼𝓽 𝓰𝓻𝓪𝓷𝓽 𝓾𝓷𝓽𝓸 𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓶. As we start this new week, let us not remain silent. Violence against women is not just a women's issue, it is a violation of human rights and an assault on the very fabric of our society. We must demand accountability, call for justice, and stand up for laws that protect women and girls. In our own little ways, we must raise our voices against the oppression and violence that continues to claim the lives of our women and girls in African communities. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that the rights of women and girls are respected, upheld, and protected. We must act. We must hold perpetrators accountable. We must challenge the cultural norms that breed violence. Silence is complicity. Don't be silent, be part of the change. Take action today. #Stopkillingourwomen #Endviolence #Protectwomenandgirls #Raiseyourvoice #Humanrights

We don’t want more crisis accomodation. Stop building it! We do not want to be forced into refuges because police and family courts refuse to protect. Hold perpetrators accountable! Legislate that police have a duty of care to investigate domestic violence and to charge perpetrators. Remove all police with a track record of ignoring reported violence and protecting male perpetrators. Stop banks discriminating against single mothers, we have established years worth of inflated weekly rent payments proving we have the means to repay home loans but arbitrary, discriminatory banking laws stop women from securing loans (enabling a ready supply of tenants for property investors). Establish a similar first home buyers scheme for women who’ve been financially decimated by revenge debt and unethical family lawyers and family court judges. Make revenge debt a crime. Hold banks accountable for enabling financial abuse and credit fraud crimes. Encourage landlords to sell to their single mum tenants by making these sales capital gains tax exempt. Provide financial supports and mortgage relief for women to stay in our own homes. The first tactic of the perpetrator is to make her homeless to force her back into the relationship or to win custody thus removing his child support obligations. Provide free legal support for all victims of domestic violence including for family courts. No one should have to pay for protection from abuse. Shut down the family court pathway for abusers to continue to harm and control and the avenue for unethical lawyers who’ve monetised domestic violence. Establish community justice centres where domestic violence and trauma informed professionals identify the person using violence as early as possible. A space where victim survivors can report domestic, family and sexual violence safely (not police stations). Police are the wrong profession to diagnose domestic violence. Police are failing and violent men are murdering their intimate partners because they can due to police inaction and misconduct. These actions will show that the government is truely listening. #HowDareShe be heard!
Last week, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese gave a speech at the International Women’s day parliamentary breakfast that recognised that addressing violence against women and children, is a matter of urgency. We support his references to learning from lived experts, being innovative in our prevention efforts, intervening earlier, engaging with children exposed to violence and the need for men to continue stepping up to change attitudes. Federal Government initiatives including paid domestic and family violence leave, increasing paid parental leave and addressing the housing shortage are important steps forward and this speech highlighted the need to do more. We await the release of the Federal budget in May to see this important speech translated into further action. https://lnkd.in/g8P4-Aey

Today on the festival of Rakshabandhan, we have a celebration traditionally centered around the protection of sisters by their brothers, it is high time to redefine what protection truly means. A safe future for women is not about dependence on others for safety, but about building a world where women are inherently safe and free from fear. This requires systemic change—educating our youth on values, empathy and equality, enforcing laws that protect women with unwavering rigor, and challenging the cultural norms that enable violence. This Rakshabandhan, let us commit to not just symbolic gestures, but to real actions that ensure every woman can walk with confidence, knowing that her safety and dignity are upheld by society as a whole. This Rakshabandhan, Let us Commit to Real Protection. Happy Rakshabandhan!

Director Military Service (1916-1923) Pensions Archive - International Council on Archives member - Irish National Committee of the Blue Shield
** The Belfast Women map is turning into a Six-County Women map! ** Have a look! Although there are more medal claims to populate (yellow, for those whose service claim was unsuccessful), there are now over 300 names. Locators are linked to our #MSPA database: click on a name and access the archival description. There, you can download the full specs digitised files. Disclaimer: many applicants moved and listed several addresses in their application(s). The intent has been to use the address that was most likely the claimant's main residence in the 1920s but it's not always clear from the file itself. Some addresses cannot be found anymore (rural areas) or do not exist anymore (streets). If there are obvious errors, let me know. To go a bit further, we have two posts on our blog that offer some essential context for northern pension applicants and their experience: 1) The Six-Counties in the MSPC – Verification of claims for a different conflict: https://lnkd.in/e_nXV8Dn 2) The Six-Counties in the MSPC – Belfast women and the cost of war: https://lnkd.in/eUgxajdc https://lnkd.in/eZ5kyE_C #Map #Archives #IrishArchives #Research #OpenAccess
