National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month is observed each July to raise awareness of the challenges that affect the mental health of racial and ethnic minority groups in the United States. It's an important opportunity to learn more about mental health and find ways to support mental health equity. Mental health matters, and everyone can play a role in promoting health equity by sharing information, using non-stigmatizing language, and learning about implicit bias and microaggressions. #SourceForBetterHealth #MinorityHealth #NMHM24

Language is powerful. It shapes our perceptions, influences our behaviors, and reflects our values. As psychology students and professionals, it’s crucial that we use language that promotes respect, understanding, and inclusivity. One important aspect of this is refraining from using mental health conditions as adjectives. Phrases like “I’m so OCD about this project,” “The weather is so bipolar,” or “She’s acting schizophrenic” can be harmful and perpetuate misunderstandings about serious mental health conditions. These conditions are not quirky traits or mood swings; they are real, often debilitating illnesses that affect millions of people. Using mental health conditions as casual descriptors minimizes the experiences of those who live with these challenges and contributes to the stigma that surrounds mental health issues. Instead, let’s choose words that accurately convey our meaning without trivializing or misrepresenting mental health conditions. Here are a few alternatives: ✨Instead of “I’m so OCD about this,” try “I’m very detail-oriented.” ✨Instead of “The weather is so bipolar,” try “The weather is very unpredictable.” ✨Instead of “She’s acting schizophrenic,” try “She’s acting erratically.” Let’s commit to using language that fosters empathy and understanding. Together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone. #MentalHealth #InclusiveLanguage #Respect #Professionalism #psychology #clinicalpsychology #counselling
Ever wondered how casually using mental health disorders can negatively impact society? Changing how we use these terms can create a more supportive and positive community. #MentalHealthAwareness #SpeakWithCare #EndTheStigma

The Healing Youth Alliance (HYA) is a collaborative initiative aimed at addressing the effects of untreated trauma and reducing the stigma around mental health treatment, particularly in the African American community. By training youth and youth program leaders on mental health, trauma, and healing, HYA empowers young people to become ambassadors for mental health awareness and positive coping mechanisms. Joining this movement means supporting efforts to provide culturally-sensitive mental health resources, trauma-informed care, and healing-centered engagement. Whether you're a mental health worker, educator, religious leader, or simply someone who cares about youth well-being, there are many ways to get involved and make a difference. https://lnkd.in/gWkCRJKp #AGW #allianceforgreaterworks #healingyouth #pathwaytohealing #HealingYouthAlliance #MentalHealthAwareness #TraumaInformedCare #YouthEmpowerment #PositiveCoping #CommunityEngagement #YouthWellBeing #GetInvolved
