MISCONCEPTIONS OF TECH As an individual who transitioned from Arts to Tech, I had lots of misconceptions of tech from afar, but after daring to join the field, I have a better perspective of what Tech is. Here are some of those misconceptions: 1. TECH IS HARD: This particular ideology held me back from transitioning for years. I didn’t want “hard” but I realized that life itself isn’t easy. Nothing good comes easy. I faced my fears and discovered that “hard” is relative. It depends on who is talking. 2. TECH IS ONLY FOR THE YOUNG AND TECH-SAVVYS: One prevalent misconception is that technology is only relevant to the younger generation or those who are naturally tech-savvy. In reality, technology is for everyone, regardless of age or background. From seniors learning to use smartphones to entrepreneurs starting businesses later in life, technology offers opportunities for people of all ages to learn, innovate, and thrive in the digital age. 3. TECH IS ALWAYS THE SOLUTION: While technology has undoubtedly revolutionized many industries and improved countless aspects of our lives, it is not always the answer to every problem. There is a tendency to view technology as a panacea for all challenges, overlooking the importance of human creativity, critical thinking, and empathy in finding holistic solutions. Technology should be seen as a tool to augment human capabilities, rather than a substitute for human ingenuity and compassion. 4.TECH IS INACCESSIBLE TO EVERYONE: While digital divides and disparities in access to technology exist, efforts are being made to bridge these gaps through initiatives such as digital literacy programs, community tech centers, and affordable internet access initiatives. By promoting inclusivity and equitable access to technology, we can ensure that everyone has the opportunity to benefit from its transformative power. Conclusively, while technology undoubtedly holds immense potential to improve our lives and drive progress, it is essential to approach it with a critical understanding. By dispelling common misconceptions and embracing a more informed perspective, we can harness the full potential of technology to create a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable future for all. It’s easy to see how the world is evolving with technology and feel like the only way to stay relevant is to dive headfirst into tech. But here’s the thing: your background, your industry knowledge, and your unique experience already have value! 💡 For anyone thinking of changing careers entirely to "just tech", pause for a second.
