The report’s statistics are staggering: an estimated one in 20 adults, amounting to 2.3 million people annually, are perpetrators of violence against women and girls (VAWG). Ms Blyth underscored the severity of the situation, stating, “Nobody in industry and in other sectors and across the public understands just the scale and impact of these crimes.”
The report identified multiple key threats to victims, including sexual violence, domestic abuse, stalking, and child sexual abuse. Between 2018 and 2023, there was a 37% increase in violent crimes against women and girls. Last year alone, over one million crimes against women and girls were recorded in England and Wales, constituting 20% of all crimes documented by the police.

Social services come into my property and sat there and told my partner bluntly he will kill you. They say violence against women and girls is a national emergency as serious as terrorism. Each year, one in 12 in England and Wales are affected by crimes like stalking, harassment and domestic violence and one in 20 adults will be a perpetrator. Over the last four years, the number of recorded offences is up by more than 1/3 and the perpetrators are getting younger. We we know that that that children and young people are drawn into being both victims and suspects. These types of crime, particularly online, it wouldn't be appropriate and right to criminalise all the average age is 15, all young people at this stage. So we've got to have a different approach to how we're tackling this crime type, these crime types. Prime Minister Sakir Starmer has pledged to have violence against women and girls within a decade. We got exclusive access to Essex Police where they're not just trying to catch the perpetrators of abuse but trying to stop the crimes from being committed in the first place. They're monitoring men like Eddie, that's not his real name, who they believe could be capable of serious harm. He's had more than 90 reports of domestic abuse against him and has been convicted of some. So police now monitor things like his mobile phone and social media and general movements. We would want to know where they work, what vehicle they drive, who they associate with, where they frequent, all of that to have a real understanding of their lifestyle and their type of offending. And who else might be involved in that? But Eddie's been offered help too. The work you've been doing with the police around your behaviour and your feelings, how has that helped you? I learned to think more. My partner and they, we have a disagreement. I walk away, she calms down or. I I think we both respect our relationship. Essex Police admits the program hasn't been as popular as they'd hoped, but they're convinced it is working for those who have engaged, like Eddie My. Arrests compared to what my arrest had been in the last months speak volume. So I think it's something like 97 investigations against me. And in the last 12 months there's been nothing. Human trafficking is a serious crime and a grave violation of human rights. It involves the exploitation of individuals through force, fraud, or coercion for various purposes such as forced labor and sexual exploitation. This crime affects millions of people globally, including men, women, and children.
Awareness and recognizing the signs of trafficking are crucial steps in helping those in need.
Halton Region has a dedicated Human Trafficking department that provides essential resources and support. Additionally, SAVIS, our sexual assault and violence intervention services, also works with human trafficking survivors to offer critical assistance and care.
What should I do if I think someone is a victim of trafficking?
If there is immediate danger or if you suspect someone is being trafficked, the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) urges you to call 9-1-1.

In July this year, five people in Dorset were been arrested after reports of sexual exploitation and human trafficking offences. Two men and a woman in their 30s, and a woman in her 20s - all from Bournemouth, were arrested on suspicion of modern slavery and money laundering offences.

There is no excuse for gender-based violence.
Today, our first ever EU legislation on combating violence against women and domestic violence enters into force.
It criminalises:
🛑physical violence
🛑psychological
🛑economic
🛑and sexual violence
against women across the EU, both offline and online.
For the first time ever, we criminalise gender-based cyber violence, such as non-consensual sharing of intimate images, including deepfakes.
We will continue to do everything possible to prevent violence against women, including domestic violence, to protect victims and punish offenders.

According to the National Crime Agency (NCA), approximately 80,000 people are deemed to pose a sexual threat to children online in Britain. We are the capital of Europe in terms of the number of people accessing indecent images of children online, and top three in the world.
Between 2007 and 2017 police records showed a:
1,086% ⬆️ in sexual grooming of children
178% ⬆️ in Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) offences
187% ⬆️ in recorded rapes of girls under the age of 13
355% ⬆️ in recorded rapes of boys under the age of 13
511% ⬆️ in the abuse of children through sexual exploitation (CSE)
For me, the Huw Edwards case speaks more to the scale of the issue we have around the safeguarding of children in society from sexual exploitation and grooming, the operational priority dilemma policing faces, and the desperate need to continue raising awareness about the serious threat facing the most voiceless in society, our kids.

Lifting the veil on violence against children in SA.
Rape cases for children increased by 6,3 percentage points between 2015/16 and 2019/20, whilst both common assault and assault with grievous bodily harm (GBH) decreased by 2,1 and 3,5 percentage points respectively.
Moreover, sexual assault cases for children increased by 1,4 percentage points.

In Africa’s smallest mainland country, The Gambia, subjecting anybody to sexual activity against their will is a criminal offense, but how often are offenders prosecuted? This article focuses on rape cases reported from 2017 to 2021 and their lack of punishment, which forced a magistrate to declare rape as a pandemic in the country during a ruling.
