When working with Millennials, it is imperative to listen to them – really listen. Senior leaders and executives, you may be resisting the infiltration of too much Millennial spunk into your organisations, but they are the future. They not only need to be heard, but consulted. Wanna know what creative advocacy is? Well, I recently did it again with an amazing army of creatives—and we made magic happen. Yes, at boldoz bookstores, I headlined “An Hour of Social Impact Poetry” at the United Nations Civil Society Conference’s #ArtsForTheFutureFestival, curated in #Nigeria by Ecrafti | Narratives for Development. We used our voices to address the real issues shaking our world—climate change, police brutality, bad governance, economic hardship, and protest resistance. We didn’t shy away from the tough conversations, tackling themes of labor, hope, community crises, riot killings, suicide, humanitarian refugee crises, racism, and shelter. This was art with a purpose—creative advocacy to inspire, heal, and call for change like the visionary Lisa Russell of Create2030 often push for within and beyond United Nations spaces. Today’s art is tomorrow’s refuge, and this performance embodied that truth. Ready to witness it?
