Alright, let's talk about the thing that everybody really wants to talk about is equipment. What kind of equipment do you need for search and rescue? What makes a good Sara drone? Let's jump into that. One of the key features that you need to worry about are the endurance of that drone. How long can you keep it up in the air? What is the camera system? Does it offer a thermal camera, zoom camera, wide angle lens? Does it offer a laser range Finder? Does it allow you to be able to find your patience and get the exact coordinates of where your patients? Does it have an IP rating? And then of course, how much does it cost? The Matrice 30 has a thermal option to it with this powerful payload right here. It also has a fantastic zoom camera and also an endurance and IP rating that is basically unmatched by most anything else in the industry. It feels just about every single role that a search and rescue drone pilot would need to be able to save as many lives as possible. I'm proud to say that my team here and Weber County was the very first team in the world to log a life saved with this Matrice 30. Please stay tuned for Part 3.

How do we ensure our drones steer clear of other low-flying aircraft when navigating crowded airspace? Unmanned Aircraft System Traffic Management (or UTM). UTM acts like an automated reservation system for different flight routes. If a drone plots a route that conflicts with an existing drone's reservation, UTM tells it to find a new route. It's an overcast day here in Lumberton, North Carolina, which makes it a great day to work with my new DJI Mini 4 Pro, DJI Goggles Integra, and DJI Motion 2 controller. Although this M4P lacks the capabilities of my DJI Enterprise series drones, it is a fun drone to fly with an impressive camera for such a small drone. The first person view (FPV) capabilties of this drone when paired with the goggles and wrist controller make it that much more fun to fly. Is this package a drone I would use for mapping and other survey work? No, but it's compact size makes it useful for hasty reconnaissance jobs and the FPV capabilities allow me to more effectively maneuver the drone through confined spaces with potential obstacles. That, combined with optional propeller guards, makes this a versatile little package. I'm sure I'll post some imagery in the coming weeks. #drone #dji #archaeology #maritimearchaeology #southeasternaerialimaging #seai
