🔥🔥95% of firefighters are not professionals?! Today was a fun city festival! My daughters had the chance to pose on a fire truck and were totally excited🤩 I learned today from a Firefighter that that 👉Firefighting operations due to actual Fires are 12 times less likely than Emergency rescues 👀 👉95% of firefighters in Germany are volunteers‼️, that’s why youth engagement of the fire department is so crucial Some numbers (I love statistics 🤓): Causes of fires: - Electricity (28%) ⚡ Deployment statistics 2022: - Emergency medical services: 2,436,919 🚑 - Technical assistance: 659,662 🔧 - Patient transport: 526,482 🚑 - False alarms: 350,613 🔕 - Fires and explosions: 197,834 🔥 - Animals/insects: 39,788 🦁🐝 - Disaster alarms: 174 ☢️ Btw: it takes only 8 weeks of training that can be done in the evening and on Saturdays until you are allowed to join rolling out on a mission in the fire truck. And your employer has to enable your service by law and you get a compensation. Would you do it? #Firefighters #Volunteers #Heroes #Youth #thankyouforyourservice #feuerwehr

Three generations of a family who have served Seascale Fire Station for over 45 years have attributed their longevity to camaraderie and community spirit. George Steele became the family’s third generation of On-Call Firefighters when he joined the crew in July this year, following in the footsteps of father Terry, who joined in 1991 and continues to serve, and grandfather Chris, who was part of the team from 1978 to 2002. Scott Robinson, Deputy Director of Government Affairs, INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FIRE FIGHTERS. As a firefighter and public sector employee, I can't help but shake my head at The Heritage Foundation's Project 2025. On page 82 of the Mandate for Leadership, they suggest that congress make public-sector unions illegal. Imagine a world where essential services, like firefighting, are driven solely by political agendas and not by the people who actually do the work. What could possibly go wrong? Clearly, the path to better governance is through more bureaucracy and less representation for those who risk their lives every day. The Idea that local governements will protect their fire fighters and their communities is a joke. As someone on the front lines, I can tell you this: weakening public-sector unions will only undermine our ability to protect and serve our communities effectively. hashtag #Firefighter hashtag #PublicSector hashtag #Unions hashtag #STOPProject2025 hashtag #RUINEDHeritage hashtag #FaultyFoundation

Urgent call for help, specifically helicopters to rescue and save the lives of people who have been cut off due to the floods caused by cyclone Helene. "A matter of life and death for the people of North Carolina" The vast majority of helicopters saving lives are civilian according to Jonathan Howard, a member of the State Guard, special mission unit and Aerial Recovery, a non-profit. This is reminiscent of the Australian experience, but not only is the government failing to provide adequate support but preventing civilians from doing the work, refusing supplies. Now this could all be confusion on the ground, a battle of whose turf is being stepped on but we do have a situation here. Why would the sheriff's department prevent mainstream news (CNN) from filming and broadcasting the worst hit areas? What don't they want you to see? 🤔 People are running out of food, clean water, medications, formula, potentially injured, without shelter, etc. The situation is dire. They cannot be driven out because roads and bridges are washed away. All these "natural" disasters have similar patterns. 🤷♀ My latest article "White Horse of The Apocalypse"👇https://lnkd.in/gkpMTxgr To see more of my posts, join my network and click the 🔔 on my profile. Real time, on-the-ground reporting from a very astute observer on the aftermath of hurricane-caused inland flooding in western North Carolina. *Local leadership and local knowledge are fundamental to efficient rescues and helping the community heal after a traumatic weather event* The increase in atmospheric CO2 has increased the available energy in our atmosphere and oceans leading to less predictable weather and a broader range of usual weather events (i.e. wetter, dryer, colder, hotter). This massive and relatively unpredictable weather is becoming more common—here’s a preliminary report using attribution science to support that statement in the setting of Helene. https://lnkd.in/eMR49wKH

Lesson of the Day from Western North Carolina Federal and State emergency response should have a public-private liaison officer that empowers operations of local community volunteers through resources and coordination. Reality: 1. Government wants to control response in order to streamline situational awareness, accountability, and coordination. Natural tendency. 2. Government response is critical and the only way to really recover at scale. 3. The increasing severe impact of extreme weather events across zip codes and state lines, means that unaffiliated first responders will be stepping in with greater frequency. Historically, the #CajunNavy is the most publicized example. Now we have the what I am calling #AppalachianAirforce - private helicopters running evacuation, home health checks, and supply deliveries. The new REALITY: The disaster medicine truism is all immediate response is local has never been more true. SO, there needs to be a better mechanism to empower highly motivated, skilled, and motivated volunteers who have no official organizational affiliation. #HurricaneHelene #ClimateCrisis #WesternNC #Swannanoa Joan Lynch Igor Jablokov Joan Myers Presidential Leadership Scholars Ljubomir (L.J.) 7moI already did it, over 26 years ago... 😀 I learned most of the skills that I use in my professional life today in the volunteer fire department. From creative problem solving to comprehensive technical understanding and leadership. Even today, I continue to learn something new and use my work as a trainer and group leader to further improve my skills. At the same time you are with great people. All of this is completely free and you are doing something for society. If you have the opportunity then do it! 💪
