Data engineers are currently being hired with less experience but for higher salaries, while the average experience of hired Java programmers has increased by almost a year (and the average salary has risen by $400). We have compared the salaries and experience of recently hired technical specialists over the past year and the year prior (covering two periods from September to August). For instance, in the last year, companies have started hiring "junior" sysadmins. The average experience in this category has decreased by 9 months, while the average salary has remained unchanged. Experience and salaries have also decreased in mobile development and analytics roles. As for Unity developers, the average experience has remained constant, but the average salary has seen an increase of almost $200. The most significant salary increases have occurred in Team Lead positions, with a $600 boost and only a 3-month increase in experience. On average, the experience of hired candidates falls in the range of 3-5 years, except for Team Leads, where it's 9-10 years, and Lead Generation specialists, who have an average experience of 1-2 years.

Perhaps the definition of Data Engineer has changed over the years.
