Do you employ high risk drivers? Are your seasoned veterans becoming high risk drivers due to traffic congestion? There are far too many Professional drivers on the roads today who are quick with the excuse or "reason why" they are tailgating or speeding or making unsafe passes! I can list many of those reasons as most of you can, my question is what are you changing within your operation to ensure you have responsible drivers? Congestion caused by too much traffic puts drivers in a situation where it takes longer to do the same amount of work they did last year. If your drivers are paid by the hour, then they are compensated, if they are paid by the mile or the trip then they are donating their time to you. To overcome the donation of time, driver's tailgate, and lane jump, speed, challenge yellow lights, short cut vehicle inspections amongst other things. Are you confident in all your driver's abilities, can you honestly say that every driver who operates for you is a competent defensive driver? Does your stomach twist into a small knot when you see certain drivers headed out on certain trips or worse on any trip? There are so many pressure points within a trucking or bus company to meet budgets, sales targets and keep customers happy. This load must go, or those passengers need to be moved. Dashcam footage on social media says someone is sending out drivers that need an attitude adjustment or defensive driving course, perhaps both? Are you keeping the public safe and empowering your professional drivers to earn an above average income while keeping everyone safe? Have a Great Day everyone!

Check out a new driver awareness initiative, CheckPSP.com, which aims to empower truck drivers with crucial knowledge about their Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP) reports. Initiative co-founder and SCTA member Motor Supply, Inc., found that many truck drivers are unaware of what PSP is and how vital it is to their careers. PSP essentially serves as a driver's resume in the trucking industry, containing valuable information about a driver's history, including inspection and crash records. Trucking companies and potential employers use PSP reports to evaluate a driver's safety and performance. CheckPSP.com encourages drivers to take the initiative and obtain their PSP reports. By doing so, drivers can gain insights into their records, identify areas for improvement, and present a more attractive profile to potential employers. To further support this initiative, Motor Supply, Inc. and other sponsors are offering to reimburse the cost of PSP reports for drivers (typically $10 each), with enough funds donated so far to cover over a thousand reports. Check out CheckPSP.com for more information.

Public service message: the purpose of driving a vehicle is to get from point A to point B safely. When driving a car leave at least one car length per 10 mph between you and the car in front of you. For example, if you are going 60 mph then you leave six car lengths between you and the car in front of you. Because you are going to need that distance in order to brake and possibly come to a stop without hitting the car in front of you. When you are changing lanes, you use turn signals or hand signals to indicate if you are turning left or turning right, so everybody else on the road can anticipate your movement and let you into the lane. Do not race to the next red light. Because it’s bad for your brakes and your tires; and it causes unnecessary stress. Not to mention you could cause an accident or a car crash. Do not change lanes recklessly from fast lane to middle lane to slow lane only to come back to the middle lane and then the fast lane because you feel like being an [expletive]. For your reckless driving that endangers everybody else on the road, you should be put in jail for one year and you should have your driver’s license denied for one year after you come out of jail. Your offending car should be turned into a planter box that you can water with your tears and grow vegetables in, or it can be donated for use in a neighborhood garden. This has been a public service message for safe driving, so that we all reach our destinations safely. JTB 7-29-24

Paying more can save you loads of money. How you might ask? In this particular line of work we come across the need for wreckers quite often. Wreckers are not Cheap and they often charge 2 hour minimums that range from $250-1000 an hour 😬 On rare occasions we run into wreckers we have never worked with. They see the freight and say “I HATE THESE THINGS” Some wreckers have mentioned spending 6-10 hours. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$💵💸💰🤑 We rarely go past 2 hours no matter how disordered things are. On top of that we are all forklift certified and frequently load ourselves when people are lenient enough. We charge a decent chunck of change but no where near $250-$1000 two hour minimums We charge roughly 10-30k a year in driver assist fees. That would probably look more like 20-60k in wrecker fees, and I’m being conservative. We have come across rates other carriers get for hauling the same stuff, we have found them to be $300-$1000 dollars less than what we get before driver assist fees. Fact of the matter is, We Do other people’s work and we do it well. We get paid more yet far less than what would have been paid. Win, Win, Win not to mention we typically get the job done faster so we can get on with our day. 4 stops today 3 with a wrecker 4hours altogether 1 hour for people to get around to us 1 location where we loaded. Granted I’m with my brother and it would have looked more like 5-6 hours alone. Regardless it’s a huge difference. We get paid more to save even more for both us and our clients. That’s a mutually beneficial relationship 🤝 We turn wrecker’s frowns upside down all day everyday. We save money, generate more money, free up capacity sooner and most importantly save Time. #value #flatbed #trucing #grit #grind #America #hustle

I've just seen the awful news that the administrators are going to close half The Body Shop stores in the UK, starting with several today, and drastically reduce the head office staff. Also earlier today that The Body Shop Germany has gone into administration. https://lnkd.in/d2T6wAex Worrying times. If you work for The Body Shop anywhere in the world and have lost your job, or it is at risk, then we'll arrange up to three hours of virtual coaching to get your head around the situation and help you back on your feet. Completely free, thanks to the amazing support of over 30 experienced coaches and mentors who have volunteered their help since I first put this out on Saturday. Pay it forward when you can. That's The Body Shop way. #randomactsofkindness Examples of things you might want to talk through with a coach: - how do I deal with the practical and emotional fallout of all of this? - what do I want to do next in my career? - how do I approach the job market? - it may have been a while - can you help me get my CV up to date? - can you help prepare me for interviews? When you contact us, let us know if you will want a coach or a mentor. A coach will be skilled in helping you think through the sorts of questions above, and will have resources and tools to hand to help you. They typically work with people from a variety of different work disciplines and professional backgrounds. A mentor is more likely to work with people with a specific professional background and to offer targeted advice. This can be specially helpful if you have a change of direction in mind. Some of our mentors are entrepreneurs, others are marketing people, one or two are academics, several have worked for charities and social enterprises. You can contact us via the website: www.mileone.co.uk Or send a Private Message to my wonderful colleague and calendar magician Jo Scott #payitforward
The 14 years I spent working for The Body Shop were some of the best of my working life. I worked with some amazing people all over the world, learned and grew with them, my career flourished and many of them are still cherished friends. It was more than a job, it was a cause. It's heart-breaking to hear of its current predicament and I ask myself: what would Anita do in my situation? I know what my wonderful late friend and mentor Lucy Funnell would have done, because when the UK retail industry was on its knees in 2008, she helped me establish a programme called Rework for the charity Retail Trust. I don't have a lot to offer but I have become pretty experienced in #careercoaching - thanks in no small part to encouragement from my colleagues at The Body Shop when I left in 2006, including Lucy, Kathryn Flanagan and my external coach Valerie Wark. So here's the deal. If you are working with The Body Shop anywhere in the world and your job is affected or at risk, contact me for up to three hours of free virtual coaching (that's what we did with Rework in 2008). No catch. Pay it forward when you can. When I've taken on the first few people, I'll reach out to other coaches I know, some also former The Body Shop employees, and ask them to offer the same. I'm tagging a few of them below so they can think about what they can do to help. #revolutioninkindness #bodyandsoul #loveuntilithurts How to contact: - PM me here - go to www.mileone.co.uk and contact me through the website
