An easy explanation of how Apple Pay and Google Pay work. It's interesting how Apple took card information privacy, creating a security vault inside the device, while Google decided to store the data on its servers https://lnkd.in/eu8bhhfc

Apple remains unwavering in its commitment to privacy. As I often emphasize to my colleagues and friends, Apple’s core income lies in hardware rather than ad revenue. Their Private Cloud Compute (PCC) model, which incorporates verifiable transparency, serves as a testament to this dedication. Moreover, Apple prioritizes security by implementing robust least privilege principles for their employees. Other tech companies, including Microsoft, could certainly learn from Apple’s approach, especially in light of recent incidents like the Recall fiasco This model isn’t without its imperfections, Apple’s unwavering commitment to the Lightning cable "proprietary income" and their reluctance to embrace RCS (Rich Communication Services), a more robust and feature-rich messaging protocol are failures. However, most new Apple hardware are now USB-C (Finally, one cable to connect them all!) and RCS is planned for iOS 18.

This tech anniversary might surprise you… it's been 35 years since the birth of apple .com. Fun fact: Apple snagged their .com 4 years before the World Wide Web launched. It was one of the first 100 companies to register a .com address. Problems with iCloud? Disappearing emails and iCloud files? Fortunately, we aren’t using iCloud for work, it’s all personal stuff, but still frustrating. Not sure what’s going on with iCloud, but all my email and iCloud files have suddenly gone missing. I called in and talked with Apple for 2 hours…….they don’t have any answers. Looking at iCloud files of stuff saved………it’s almost all gone. Folders there, but no files in them. Apple has always been a beacon of security and dependability…….not seeing it now. Am I the only one? #apple #icloud

One of the lesser talked about things of being parent is the realisation that you actually need to seriously think about succession planning and access to irreplaceable or valuable information in the event that you cop it. This is especially important nowadays given that, like many others I imagine, I have an absolute shit ton of information stored securely away in various places and whilst I do my utmost to prevent malicious access to this data, it doesn't take into account the fact that one day I may not be around to provide my various factors of authentication. Bit of a morbid subject but this place has plenty of virtue signalling amongst other nonsense, and these are the areas that get brushed under the rug but are still key. One thing I came across was "Legacy Contacts" for my Apple ID. It provides anyone you choose with the ability to access your data in the event of your death which is super helpful. Personally I have a digital copy stored somewhere we can both access, and a physical copy printed and stored in our secure fireproof safe. Call it your own personal DRP. If you're an Apple user, I would highly advocate doing this. Unless you want to leave chaos in your wake, in which case - you do you. https://lnkd.in/e5zi5z2g. #apple #succession #drp #bcp #dataprotection

How To Change Amazon Alexa Privacy Settings for Voice Recordings https://lnkd.in/gRxtvKvT These settings are not front and center, meaning not easy to find. Two ways I know of to get there and this is the easiest way; If you start from your account page at top right on a desktop browser, mouse over the "Hello, YourName Accounts & Lists", then click on "Content & Devices". https://lnkd.in/gV5NeSak #AlexaVoiceRecordingPrivacy #AmazonAlexaPrivacySettings #ManageYourAlexaData #ReviewVoiceHistory
