Last month, DNI was extremely honored to earn a spot on Glassdoor's Best Places to Work 2024: Small & Medium Businesses list. We earned #48 out of 1.5 million businesses across the United States. We could not have done this without our employees diligently following our one-of-a-kind SHINES company cultural values, which every employee embodies. Those cultural values are Selflessness, Humility, Integrity, Native Pride, Entrepreneurship, and Servanthood. We refer to it as The SHINES Mentality! https://bit.ly/3Xd0feM #GlassdoorBPTW #BPTW #DNIshines 🐢

This year’s Inc. 5000 ranks the fastest-growing companies in America from 2019 through 2023. There are so many businesses that slugged it out in these transformative four years for our country and the world. If you want to be truly inspired, read some of the stories of the amazing entrepreneurs on this list, and how going their own way helped them build a future they wanted to see. We are grateful, honored, and delighted to be listed among them at #921. AWL grew 549% in the last four years and that comes down to one thing: #People. The clients we work with are changing their agencies and businesses to better serve people. They are leaders and entrepreneurs in their own right, imagining a different future, putting one foot in front of the other and fighting for it, just like the folks on this list. Our team, past and present, are people who strive to make a difference, who care, make beautiful and useful things, see change where others see obstacles, and believe in a different way of working. Our partners are people who know the importance of good change, share our purpose and service-driven mission, and sign us up to help them achieve it. To all our "people," clients, team, partners, colleagues, friends, and family, #THANKYOU. We could not have done it without you. We know we say this often, that's because, from day one, it is the truth we've grown by. #Whaaaat? #Inc5000 #921 #SmallBusiness #WOSB #Growth #Service #Gratitude https://lnkd.in/g6Yn3rnH Sara Thomas I Holly Sydnor

As I sit here and work on Workers' Day, it's a fitting moment to reflect on a foundational principle of entrepreneurial success: the market rewards value creation, problem-solving and efficient resource utilization. Hard work and dedication are vital, but they need to be directed towards generating tangible benefits for others. Our commitment remains steadfast in delivering precisely these attributes, ensuring our offerings resonate with market demands and contribute meaningfully to our success. #hardwork #dedication #value #problemsolving

Independent Economist | Keynote Speaker | Consultant | Vice-Chancellor’s Fellow at the University of Tasmania | Advisor to businesses, investors, industry associations and community organizations |
Speaking of "fetishism", as I was earlier this morning about "manufacturing fetishism", this article from today's The Australian Financial Review is an example of what I call "small business fetishism", that is, the (like its manufacturing variant, widely held) view that there is something inherently more noble about running a small business than there is about working for a big one, or for a government agency or a not-for-profit, and hence (so its adherents argue) that people owning small businesses should (among other things) pay less tax on any given amount of income than people earning the same income in the form of wages or salaries. Now it is of course the job of the CEO of the Council of Small Business Organizations to advocate on behalf of small business operators, so I am not criticizing Luke Achterstraat for doing what he's paid to do (any more than I criticize Western Australian Premiers and Treasurers for trying to screw as much money out of the Federal Government as they can - that's their job). But I do think that people should see the arguments put in this article for the self-serving propaganda that they are. Contrary to the oft-chanted mantra, small business is not the 'engine room' (or the 'backbone') of Australia's economy. Small business' share of total employment has declined from 47.8% in 2006-07 to 38.3% in 2022-23, and over that interval small businesses have accounted for less than 11% of the increase in total employment (cf. business with more than 200 employees 49% of the increase in total employment). Productivity in small business in 2022-23 was 21% below the average for all businesses, which is probably the main reason why average wages paid by small businesses were 35% below the average for wages paid by all businessses. And far from being "innovation hotspots", the most recent ABS stats on business innovation (published a week ago) show that only 44% of small businesses engaged in any kind of innovative activity in 2022-23, cf. 65% of medium-sized businesses and 63% of large ones. I don't dispute that there are some highly innovative small businesses - just as there are small businesses which are creating new jobs. But they are atypical, not the norm. And yes, I agree that the law should protect small businesses (and consumers) from the abuse of monopoly (or monopsony) power by large businesses (and governments, for that matter). But nor should we fool ourselves into thinking that small business operators are saints, just because they run small businesses, or that they deserve privileges not available to other folk, (Disclosure: I run a small business myself).
