The Koch's Bacillus is a bacterium, the primary causative agent of tuberculosis. It was first identified by the German microbiologist Robert Koch in 1882, hence its name. Tuberculosis is transmitted from person to person through the air when an infected individual coughs, sneezes, or speaks. Common symptoms of TB include chronic cough with sputum production, often with blood, weight loss, night sweats, fever, fatigue, and weakness. The treatment of tuberculosis is typically lengthy and involves taking several antibiotics for at least 6 months. Early diagnosis and consistent treatment are key to preventing the spread of the disease and the development of drug resistance. #: Local Health System Sustainability Project (LHSS) USAID This project was made possible by the support of the American people, provided through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under the Sustainable Health Systems Development Project grant.
