This is unacceptable* I saw a recently posted Senior Graphic Designer role, and I was astonished by the extensive requirements. Designers are specialized, not tried to master everything. Companies should stop expecting all-in-one employees; greatness requires a collaborative team effort. Expecting one person to excel at everything is unrealistic and diminishes potential greatness. Creative Directors and hiring managers, reconsider these expectations for a more realistic and effective approach.

Let me re-introduce myself... (Jay-Z Voice) I’m Brendon Barnett. I’m a multidisciplinary creative, art director, sneakerhead, and candle maker. I’ve been fortunate to have worked with various clients across multiple industries, from disruptive global brands to ambitious start-ups, working for top-tier creative agencies to in-house teams, and venturing into the #freelance world. But it’s not all about what shiny clients and brands you’ve worked for, right?! Some facts about me: 👉 I’m a Brummie (from Birmingham, UK🇬🇧) 👉 As far as I can remember, I’ve been a ‘creative’ person, from drawing my own Beano characters (I was a big Dennis the Menace fan) to entering and winning various design competitions as a kid. No yellow pencils or crystal wear, unfortunately. 👉 I have Jamaican heritage 🇯🇲 with family coming to England during the Windrush generation. I’ve grown up with a mix of cultures, which I love and has greatly influenced my life, work, and passion projects. 👉 I went to Northampton University to do #Graphicdesign > moved to Sheffield Hallam in my 2nd year to graduate with a degree in #Advertising > to return to Birmingham and begin my career as a graphic designer 🤷♂️. From here, I broadened my skill set, including #branding, #illustration, #artworking, web/app design (UX/UI), OOH activations, and general conceptual ideas before focusing more on #artdirection. 👉 I have a French Bulldog called Pablo (after Escabor or Picasso, depending on who’s asking) who often likes to join my Zoom calls. 👉 I like to keep my finger on the pulse of #culture with a keen interest in #Lifestyle, #streetwear, #sport, and #music, which my work often gravitates towards 👉 I’m a sneakerhead, so much so that I have a tattoo of a Nike Air Force on my foot. 👉 I’m BIG on collaboration; depending on the project, I can find myself working independently or taking the creative lead, but I am a big advocate for working collectively to create cool shit.
