As we celebrate Pride Month this June, we took the opportunity to sit down with Chris McChesney, Chief Claims Counsel for Doma and Executive Champion of the company’s Pride Employee Resource Group (ERG). In previous years, Chris served as Co-Chair of the ERG, and he has been an advocate for greater awareness within the title industry regarding the #LGBTQIA+ community. The ERG, one of the first groups formed at Doma, set a precedent as Doma became one of the pioneering title insurance companies to actively support diversity and pride. Over the years, Doma has championed various initiatives to support the LGBTQIA+ community. In 2022, Doma proudly sponsored a Pride Parade in Orange County, California, with Chris playing a role in organizing the event. Within the organization, we have hosted numerous online events, including employee panels discussing their experiences, community engagement and current legislation affecting the #LGBTQIA+ community. Chris, pictured below on the right with his husband while traveling for an ALTA meeting, acknowledges there is still a significant journey ahead. The trans community continues to face substantial legislative and social challenges, and broader LGBTQIA+ rights are threatened by laws such as Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill, which restricts classroom discussions about sexual orientation or gender identity. Chris affirms that Doma has taken substantial steps to celebrate and support #Pride and has approached diversity and inclusion in ways unprecedented in the title insurance industry. He strongly believes that all employees should feel comfortable in their identities, both within and outside the workplace. Pride Month is an opportunity to acknowledge the profound impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history. We reaffirm our commitment to fostering a diverse and supportive workplace where all employees can thrive. By celebrating Pride Month, we not only embrace diversity, but also strengthen our dedication to creating a more inclusive society for everyone. #Doma #Pride #PrideMonth #inclusion #diversity #community

Why no one is talking about the insurance for Transgenders & LGBTQ+ community? There is so much fight and awareness for the legal rights of this community but still a normal experience of availing financial services is a long way to go. This thought clicked me one day and I have decided to make the insurance experience more inclusive for them. 🏳️🌈The Transgenders and LGBTQ+ community face the following risks and taboos: 🚩They are not very much approached by Insurance agents and they too are not very aware of insurance. 🚩Collating valid documents and certificates is a major task that no insurance agent wants to get involved in. 🚩There might be some hiccups in the approval process that no insurance agent is ready to fight for them. We at Nalawade Insurance Consultancy, understand all these risks to plan a customized solution. We not only make sure that we cover all the additional risks but also make it cost-effective for them. Taking insurance is a basic human necessity and it should not be denied to anyone based on their sexual orientation or identity. If you belong to this community, drop a text at with pride at https://wa.me/9561517898 and we will be prouder to help you. #lgbtq #transgender #insurance #insuranceadvisor

Yesterday QBE Insurance had the QBE Pride Month – Not Atypical podcast live session where Kimberley O'Reilly (she/her) expertly moderated an informative session with Nic Hennessy MBA (she/her), Aron Mercer (he/him) and Tara Hadley (she/her). The session had so much heart, sharing the message of the importance of having safe and supportive environments for people to share their lived experience to create better understanding for all. So many great messages that delved into a myriad of things like the need to provide fair and equitable opportunity for all people to gain employment. The need for people, especially People Leaders, to take the approach of curiosity and empathy to support others, to grow together even if they don’t have all the answers. The need to create safe environments and mindsets to support ourselves and our children who are having these lived experiences. The interconnectedness between neurodiversity and LGBTQ+ identities. Just be a good human was a standout message. Such a great session to complement the podcast experience. You can check the podcasts out at https://lnkd.in/gRJKuv9a It's also great that we have a Neurodiversity Workplace Guide at QBE to provide extra context and support. Registrations close Monday night with about 20 spaces left... How we approach #Risk is fundamental to our lives and careers and an absolutely foundational question for those of us in #insurance. But could we potentially be missing out on personal, professional and business growth because we're too #riskaverse? Or could #entrepreneurs stand to show a little more caution when it comes to #disruption? And how does being #LGBTQ+ impact our attitudes towards risk? Our upcoming event "Risky Business" brings together #insurance professionals and #entrepreneurs from the #LGBTQ+ community to explore how business founders manage key risks, how the insurance industry can provide solutions, and to debate differences around how the insurance industry and entrepreneurs perceive risk. Whether you're an industry veteran, an aspiring entrepreneur, or simply someone interested in business risk, "Risky Business" can offer something for everyone. This event takes place a week from today. Please hurry and reserve your place now before they're all gone! 🚨 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐬! 🚨 The insurance industry is making strides in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), but there's more to do. Despite efforts from initiatives like the Insurance Women’s Inclusivity Network and the DEI Blueprint, gender, ethnicity, and LGBTQ+ representation still lag behind other sectors. 🏳️🌈 💼 🔑 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: 👩💼 Women hold only 36% of executive roles, despite being 60% of the workforce. 💸 The gender pay gap stands at 27.9% in the insurance and finance sectors. 👨👩👧👦 The rise of flexible work arrangements helps to support maternity and paternity leave. Promoting DEI in Insurance is crucial. To learn more about D&I in insurance, click the link in the comments to read part one of this two-part series. July 14th is recognized around the world as International Non-Binary People’s Day — an opportunity to support, uplift non-binary voices, and educate ourselves about the importance of building an environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging. Across Economical Insurance, Sonnet Insurance Company, Petline Insurance Company, and Family Insurance Solutions Inc., we are focused on building a dynamic, inclusive, high-performance culture where everyone feels a sense of belonging. 88% of #TeamDefinity employees recently shared that they feel they can be themselves at work. We know that diversity makes us stronger, and we aim to attract and nurture the best and brightest from a wide variety of backgrounds and lived experiences. One of the many ways we work towards building a better world by helping our clients and communities adapt and thrive, is through our community giving and impact strategy. In 2023, we invested $1,191,000 towards organizations that support our ESG and Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility goals, ensuring our investments in our communities align with our values and purpose. Our Definity LGBTQ Employee Groups supported LGBT YouthLine, a 2SLGBTQ+ youth-led organization that affirms and supports the experiences of youth across Ontario by providing anonymous peer support and referrals, as well as training youth to support other youth, and providing resources to help make informed decisions. Continuing to create a workplace where everyone can feel a sense of belonging is how we show up as allies to our LGBTQ+ employees, ensuring our employees feel supported, seen, and accepted. #NonBinaryPeoplesDay #InclusiveWorkplace

Today May 17th is International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). To quote todays author, Link Co-Chair Maurice Rose, the very existence of the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) is a useful reminder to us to consider where we’ve come from and where we need to go from an LGBTQ+ inclusion perspective. Clearly, there is more work to do. Across the globe we are seeing some back tracking on the progress made on LGBTQ+ inclusion. At the same time, we cannot forget the existence of legislation in multiple overseas jurisdictions that actively penalizes LGBTQ+ individuals. It’s important as an international community that we come together and recognize we don’t all have the same privileges and rights in all parts of the globe. We must support our communities wherever they are. Please click on the following weblink to read more.
