The Do More Agriculture Foundation’s Post

We are deeply honored to have been called to testify to The House of Commons’ Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food as part of its study of Bill C-275, An Act to amend the Health of Animals Act focusing on biosecurity on farms. This morning Executive Director, Megz Reynolds testified on behalf of Do More Ag, and Canadian farmers, addressing the significant mental health impacts that producers can face due to protestors coming onto their farms and into their barns. Farmers endure relentless adversity, facing threats from nature, diseases, and fluctuating market prices. The daily struggles shape their lives, but the trespassing and break-ins and possible risk to their animals can amplify their vulnerabilities, impacting their mental health drastically. Sandi Brock, a dedicated farmer and YouTuber, is bravely sharing her story through us, reflecting the fear and violation of privacy farmers experience due to unannounced visits and the constant threat looming over their families, homes, and animals. As advocates for mental health in Canadian agriculture, we stress the urgent need for protective measures like Bill C-275 to safeguard the well-being of our farmers, their livelihoods, and the industry’s future. The feeling of powerlessness against intrusive threats exacerbates the emotional turmoil, chronic stress, and feelings of anxiety affecting farmers. With 1 in 4 Canadian farmers grappling with severe mental health challenges, the enactment of Bill C-275 is crucial. To learn more, visit: https://lnkd.in/g_aAsfyV
