Our first-year MMD students had the opportunity to visit RIBOPRO 🧬 together with our programme director and RIBOPRO's co-founder Roland Brock. There they learned about the role of mRNA technology in shaping the future of medicine. Many MMD alumni work in the biotechnology sector, and we encourage our students to look beyond academia for future career options. MMD student Mami Burgaç about the experience: “The session began with an engaging presentation by Sander van Asbeck, CEO and co-founder of RIBOPRO, who shared valuable insights into the future and challenges of mRNA technologies. He also provided practical advice and shared personal experiences to build a successful industry career. We then had the honor to listen to a talk by Lotte Tholen, one of our MMD alumni, who shared her journey to becoming a Product Specialist. In her talk, Lotte shared how the knowledge and skills she gained during her PhD have helped her transition into impactful roles in the industry. She also touched on the differences between working in academia and industry. We had the chance to ask our burning questions, and meet with RIBOPRO's team of scientists. Many of the students were particularly inspired by seeing how the topics we’ve read about in research can be approached from different angles and scaled up for practical applications. This perspective gave us a new appreciation for the broader impact of scientific advancements.” A big thank you to RIBOPRO, Sander, and Lotte for making this inspiring visit possible. We're happy that our students get to be inspired by such a dynamic and innovative environment! #mRNAtechnologies #MolecularMechanismsofDisease #CareerDevelopment #RadboudUniversity #BiomedicalResearch #MastersProgramme #FutureScientists

#Secondments 🧳 In all #DoctoralNetworks projects secondments are foreseen for a maximum period of 12 months. ✈ Secondments are periods that our doctoral candidates spend doing research outside their hiring organization. That can be both at other's beneficiaries laboratories or at our associated partners' facilities. 💯 Secondments are an important added value to the PhD experience because: * DCs get in contact with other scientists, learn new tecniques and share their knowledge * DCs acquire new skills and competences, leading to improved employability and career prospects within and outside academia * DCs will receive multi-sectoral inputs from both worlds, academic and non-academic entities * DCs learn to get out of their confort zone, becoming more independent and improving their problem solving skills * it increases integration of training and research activities between participating organisations * and so many more benefits... Our DCs have already started their secondments! This morning, the Humimic Biosystems team spent time at the Biomed Engage Conference – Youth Edition at George Junior High School, engaging with students and sharing the excitement of biomedical engineering! As Lexi Applequist, Ph.D. candidate and CEO of Humimic, put it: "As graduate students in STEM, effectively communicating our work and its significance is critical. However, many of us have only honed this skill in very technical settings, such as academic research conferences, with peers from similar fields. It is impossible to inspire the next generation and connect with our communities if we cannot explain our science in understandable terms. This conference provided a unique opportunity to enhance our scientific communication skills, enabling us to share our valuable research with the broader community." We are passionate about making science accessible and showing students how biomedical research can transform lives. Seeing their enthusiasm and curiosity reaffirms our mission to advance healthcare through innovation. 🔬✨ The future of science starts here! Huge thanks to Amanda Walls and Adrienne Vaughan, two of the lead scientists working on Humimic's AirLOC platform, for sharing our work with OVER 400 students at this event and inspiring the next generation! Do you want to work in #industry but at the same time stay in #academia? So for you presenting Industrial PhDs. An industrial PhD combines the best of both worlds—research for a company while studying at a university. Take BioNTech's ATLAS program in Germany, for example. PhD students get to work on cutting-edge cancer treatments and vaccines at BioNTech, all while being guided by university professors. This means real-world experience and top-notch skills. Plus, students collaborate closely with both the company and the university, ensuring their work is practical and meets high academic standards. They also get access to cool industry tech and resources, boosting their research quality. It's a great way to bridge the gap between theory and practice, making graduates more job-ready and versatile.
