Always include crops and bleeds in your file for printing. Crop marks, also known as trim marks, are lines printed in the corners of your publication’s sheet or sheets of paper to show the printer where to trim the paper. A bleed is where the design extends off the print page. The publication is printed to a paper size that is larger than the finished page size and then trimmed so it won't leave a white edge. Bleeds are necessary for most digital and offset printing presses. If you receive a file without crops and bleeds, please ask your designer to send you a file with them in it. In some cases, if there is no critical copy or design elements at the edge, we might be able to blow up your document slightly to accommodate for a bleed.

CMYK - if you’ve ever had to change the toner in a printer, you’ll be familiar with this term. It refers to the primary colours that, when combined in various ways, make up every other colour you can imagine.    Specifically, the letters stand for Cyan (blue); Magenta (pink/red); Yellow (straightforward enough) and K...black?    If CMY are combined, you theoretically get black (more of a muddy brown/black; try it if you have kids' paints or crayons handy), but in order to ensure a deep black, 'true black' is added to the options.    The mysterious K stands for ‘Key’, as in ‘key plate’. ‘Offset’ printing transfers images from plates onto paper and, because printing predominantly uses black to provide the most detail, the ‘key plate’ in offset printing is black.     Colour MYstery solved...oK? 

The watermark is created by altering the density of the paper fibers during the papermaking process. This is achieved by placing a wire mesh or a patterned roller called a dandy roll into the papermaking machine before the paper pulp is pressed and dried. The areas with higher fiber density will appear darker and thicker when viewed against the light, while the watermark pattern will appear lighter and thinner. Both screen printing and offset printing methods can create watermarks using specialized transparent or lightly colored inks, resulting in distinctive and authentic patterns visible when the paper is held against light. The choice between these methods depends on factors such as the desired print quality, production volume, and available equipment. In conclusion, I mentioned 3 ways to create watermark patterns: 1, Creating the watermark during making papers; 2, Using an offset printing equipment or machine; 3, Using a screen printing frame or screen printing machine.

Flexographic printing workshop. Flexography is a type of high printing on flexible materials, using flexographic plates and fast-drying alcohol or water-based inks. A flexible photopolymer plate (cliché) is used, made from elastic light-sensitive polymers, and has several important characteristics: durability, excellent print quality on materials of various thicknesses, and the ability to produce vibrant and sharp images. This is why we use flexographic printing to apply logos, text, and images on bags. Due to the pre-treatment with a corona discharge, the ink not only adheres to the surface of the film but penetrates its structure. This results in a more durable design that does not wear off easily and maintains color brightness over time. The next stage is probably familiar to everyone? 🤔

The cells are recessed into the cylinder .The engraved cylinder sits partially immersed in the ink fountain, where it picks up ink to fill its recessed cells on each rotation of the press. Then the OPP films is pressed against the inked cylinder on a rotary press, and the image is transferred directly to OPP films. Q: What is CMYK?  A: CMYK is a four-color printing process where each color of ink is applied by its own cylinder and with drying steps in between.  C stands for cyan (blue),  M stands for magenta (red),  Y stands for yellow, K stands for black.  Theoretically, it can be done by “three primary colors” cyan (blue), magenta (red), yellow; However, since the combination of these three colors only manages to produce something “black-like” rather than complete “black,” black ink is added to make it a four-color printing method.

In four-color printing when a design includes white, the area set to white is left blank, and the substrate shows through. But this doesn’t really work when the substrate isn’t white. Additionally, printing on non-white substrates can potentially change the appearance of the colored portions of the design, as pigments are semi-opaque. This is most pronounced on dark or clear substrates. Adding white as a color to your label printing opens up a wide range of design and substrate possibilities. The entire label design can be printed in white, which can be quite striking against a dark facestock or on clear labels. White can also be used as a spot color – filling in the areas that would have usually shown the substrate. When laid down underneath color, white ink can help make all of your label colors more vibrant. This allows for brilliant color printing even on dark facestock. With clear labels, an undercoat of white allows your design to appear solid by preventing light from passing through.
