https://lnkd.in/gVCk8XaA Article title: A Review of side effects of Kombucha Author(s): Ștefania Țacu; Claudia Jude; Emil Moiș; Diana Deleanu Journal: Archives of Clinical Gastroenterology Journal ISSN: 2455-2283 Abstract: Kombucha is a mushroom fermented in sweetened black or green tea, originally found in Asia, being used as a remedy for many ailments in this region. Kombucha is not a usual mushroom because it represents the symbiosis between yeast and a variety of bacteria aggregated through a permeable membrane. Among the benefits of Kombucha tea are the potential antioxidant effect against free radicals, and the clinical effects on diabetes for its hypoglycemic, lipid-lowering, and immune stimulation. But secondary to the lack of evidence to support these benefits, several publications emerged to mention the side effects of Kombucha consumption. The present article is trying to collect the data reported in the literature regarding the side effects of Kombucha. #InflammatoryBowelDisease #FunctionalGIDisorders #GastrointestinalAndLiverDisease #DigestiveOncology #GastrointestinalSurgery #PediatricGastroenterology #ColorectalCancer #PancreaticCancer #HepatocellularCarcinoma #GastrointestinalBleeding #Endoscopy #Peertechz #PeertechzPublications #SurgicalGastroenterology #StomachUlcers #VirtualColonoscopy #GastricUlceration #RouxenYGastricBypass #GastricAcidSecretion #GastricMucosa #GastricUlcerHealing #GastricCardiaCancer #ReproductiveEndocrinology #EndocrineDisorders #Hepatology #AlimentaryCanal #PancreasCancer

【Biology/Environment】 Discovery of a Light-Responsive Mechanism Whereby Sea Urchins Open the Entrance and Exit to Their Intestines A research group at University of Tsukuba has discovered that the entrance to the gut (pylorus) and the exit (anus) of sea urchin larvae open in response to light, each to different wavelengths. This precise control of the pylorus and anus was crucial for evolution, enabling efficient digestion and absorption by regulating food retention in the digestive tract. ☑️ *READ ABSTRACT BELOW:* To advance probiotic research, a comprehensive understanding of bacterial interactions with human physiology at the molecular and cellular levels is fundamental. Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus LGG® is a bacterial strain that has long been recognized for its beneficial effects on human health. Probiotic effector molecules derived from LGG®, including secreted proteins, surface-anchored proteins, polysaccharides, and lipoteichoic acids, which interact with host physiological processes have been identified. In vitro and animal studies have revealed that specific LGG® effector molecules stimulate epithelial cell survival, preserve intestinal barrier integrity, reduce oxidative stress, mitigate excessive mucosal inflammation, enhance IgA secretion, and provide long-term protection through epigenetic imprinting. Pili on the cell surface of LGG® promote adhesion to the intestinal mucosa and ensure close contact to host cells. Extracellular vesicles produced by LGG® recapitulate many of these effects through their cargo of effector molecules. Collectively, the effector molecules of LGG® exert a significant influence on both the gut mucosa and immune system, which promotes intestinal homeostasis and immune tolerance. Leser T, Baker A. Molecular Mechanisms of Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus, LGG® Probiotic Function. Microorganisms. 2024 Apr 14;12(4):794. doi: 10.3390/microorganisms12040794. *The pH of Cell Organelles: A Delicate Balance* Cells, the basic units of life, are complex structures comprising various organelles, each with unique functions. Maintaining the proper pH within these organelles is crucial for cellular homeostasis and overall health. In this blog, we'll explore the pH of different cell organelles and why it matters. *1. Cytosol: The Cellular Soup* The cytosol, the jelly-like substance within cells, has a neutral pH of around 7.2. This slightly alkaline environment allows enzymes to function optimally, facilitating metabolic processes. *2. Lysosomes: Acidic Digestive Compartments* Lysosomes, responsible for cellular digestion and recycling, maintain an acidic pH of 4.5-5.5. This acidity enables digestive enzymes to break down and process cellular waste and foreign substances. *3. Mitochondria: The Powerhouses* Mitochondria, the energy-producing structures, have a slightly alkaline pH of 7.8-8.2. This environment supports the efficient functioning of the electron transport chain, generating energy for the cell. *4. Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER): A Versatile Network* The ER, involved in protein synthesis, folding, and transport, has a neutral to slightly alkaline pH of 7.0-7.5. This pH range allows for proper protein processing and quality control. *5. Golgi Apparatus: A pH Gradient* The Golgi apparatus, responsible for protein modification and sorting, maintains a pH gradient, ranging from 6.5 in the cis-Golgi to 7.5 in the trans-Golgi. This gradient facilitates protein processing and transport. *Why pH Balance Matters* Maintaining the optimal pH within cell organelles is vital for: - Enzyme function and activity - Protein structure and function - Cellular homeostasis and overall health By: Muhammad Bashir Ahmad Assistant Prof. (Botany) WhatsApp:0322-1695601

🌿 Nettle Root: An Age-Old Health Heritage Reinvented Did you know that the ancient Greeks and Romans used nettle root as a meat tenderizer? Today, this humble herb, often considered a weed, is gaining attention in scientific circles for its healing potential (https://lnkd.in/d-DXjp5C and https://lnkd.in/dbf7jCQk). Validated Virtues & New Discoveries Most of the traditional medicinal uses of nettle now carry scientific backing, with exciting new properties unveiled. Here are some highlights: 🔬 Rich Bioactive Profile Nettle roots are a complex blend of lectins, lignans, polysaccharides, and sterols. Stigmasterol and beta-sitosterol are notable for their health-promoting prowess. Nettle root is also loaded with essential minerals and flavonoids like kaempferol and quercetin. 🛡️ Diuretic & Prostate Health Nettle root extract has proven effective in treating benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) and slowing cancer cell growth. Furthermore, beta-sitosterol improves urinary symptoms and flow, presenting a promising alternative for BPH management with minimal side effects. 💪 Anti-Inflammatory & Vascular Support Nettle root can help reduce inflammation by slowing the production of certain chemicals and proteins that cause swelling and pain. Extracts may also help relax tight blood vessels, particularly the aorta, which can improve blood flow. 🌿 Antioxidant & Immune Modulator Research highlights nettle's influence on immune cells, showcasing its role in modulating body defense mechanisms. It also helps lower blood sugar levels, protects cells from damage due to its antioxidant properties, and fights off bacteria. From ancient kitchens to modern science labs, nettle root continues to reveal its extraordinary benefits. Though more research is needed to fully uncover its potential, it has earned its place in natural health. Our Nettle Powder Extract boasts 0.8% beta-sitosterol content.
