Air Florida Boeing 737-2TD Advanced "N53AF" waits for her gate at New York-La Guardia in the late summer of 1981. Also visible are 12 other aircraft belonging to American, Republic, TWA, Delta, United and Eastern. While LGA can certainly get very busy you may be asking yourself why this photograph makes the 150 acre airport look especially so. The answer is that this image was captured just a few days after the PATCO air traffic controllers strike began that year. None of the background aircraft are parked but all are awaiting departure clearance (with engines, of course, running the whole time) 1981, as you might imagine, was not a good year for U.S. Airlines. Delta, as usual in those days, managed an annual profit but it was very much an exception. Would you be willing to contribute to help me continue creating these free daily airline-history posts (over 1,300 since 2017, and counting)? If so please go to: https://lnkd.in/ebnx6r7U. A perfect example of the need to use active fire suppression - extinguishing systems integrated into the engine compartment enclosures, any ideas on which systems would be best suited considering: A. Initial system cost ? B. Service cost ? C. Agent type ? D. Engine downtime after discharge ? E. Agent impact in engine and accessories ? #R107 #engineenclosures #drychemical #watermist #powder #novec

https://lnkd.in/ebWJdPfz An interesting point for engine bay fire suppression on airside vehicles. Whilst there is no doubt a CAPEX this needs to be weighed against the cost of grounding a commercial aircraft... Anybody know the latest daily rate for loss of use on a 777-300?
