This #TriviaTuesday we're learning about Midwest Food Bank 🌽 Midwest Food Bank volunteers are more than hands and feet; they are fundamental to the success of the organization. They are structured to provide service opportunities and operate through the work of volunteers; they collect, sort, pack, and distribute food and disaster relief donations, a reminder every day that this mission could not be achieved without them. In 2022, more than 30,000 volunteers put in service hours to the equivalent of over 175 full-time employees! The service of these dedicated volunteers allows Midwest Food Bank to operate efficiently while keeping administrative costs low. They gain the unique perspective that worldwide hunger is prevalent, and their efforts can make a difference. In 2005, Midwest Food Bank saw first-hand that they could deliver hope and support to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. They decided to increase their capacity and work toward improving their disaster support coverage. This allowed them to serve more people more effectively! They also have a fleet of trucks and volunteer drivers standing ready. Food donations are picked up from across the country, delivered to their facilities, and distributed to those in need. How many hours of service did Midwest Food Bank's volunteers put in in 2022? A) 200,000 B) 250,000 C) 300,000 D) 350,000 See more about their missions and values here: https://lnkd.in/dvAj_hcs

As donation drives start to wind up for Hurr Helene relief, I wanted to share the below message and remind folks that, although well intentioned, your unsolicited donations will CAUSE more problems for responders and relief organizations than they will solve. In times of crisis, our collective strength shines brightest. 🌟 As Hurricane Helene wreaks havoc in the mountains of Western North Carolina, my heart aches for those affected. The massive flooding has washed away roads, submerged buildings, and left communities in dire need. It’s a stark reminder of how interconnected we are and how our actions can make a difference. In moments like these, we often wonder how we can help. One simple yet impactful way to contribute is through the Chick-fil-A Restaurants app, where you can donate to the Red Cross. Even more inspiring, Chick-fil-A is matching every dollar donated up to $500,000. This is not just a corporate initiative; it’s a call to action for all of us to step up and support our neighbors in need. I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to Chick-fil-A for their swift response and for making it easy for us to contribute. Their commitment to community support resonates deeply with me and I am most certainly a Raving Fan! As leaders, we have a unique opportunity to activate impact—not just in our workplaces but in our communities. Let’s channel our motivation and engagement into making a difference. Whether it’s through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading the word, every action counts. Let’s turn our empathy into action. 💪 #Community #Support #Impact

Today as I stopped by Red Cross to make a donation for those in Western North Carolina impacted by the hurricane something came to mind. Having worked with and for nonprofits for over 8 years, I've learned that one of the best ways to help those impacted by disasters like hurricanes is to streamline donations. Instead of sending mixed supplies, consider buying *all* of one thing. It helps organizations and volunteers move faster and get essentials to those in need in a more timely manner. Let’s make an impact together! And remember, wanting to help at ALL makes you a kind human. Every effort counts! 💜 Here are a few national organizations making a difference: - American Red Cross (redcross.org) - Direct Relief (directrelief.org) - World Central Kitchen (wck.org) #HurricaneRelief #NonprofitSupport #DonateSmart #DisasterRelief
