Ruh-minations: DID and Parts “In practice, therapists must remember that one, the part of the DID person who shows up for treatment and seems like a whole person, is not. Two, parts not addressed directly frequently are not listening and probably won’t be learning whatever you’re teaching, and three, that many parts will be stuck in the past, i.e., believing they are still children, living where they grew up, with their parents, and being abused every day.” p. 90, Joanne Twombly, "Trauma and Dissociation Informed Internal Family Systems". #emdrtraining, #emdrtherapy #advancedemdrtherapy

If there's one thing a therapist can do, it's ask questions. 😉 We just finished one of our most collaborative projects to date, where we had a real-life therapist answer questions that other clinicians were asking the Internet. WATCH NOW: https://lnkd.in/gZ8nYfuw All credit for the idea goes to our partners-in-crime (I mean, partners-in-growth), including John, Valerie, and Carmen! This was a fun one. #privatepracticetherapist #privatepractice

Have you ever been a part of a live supervision experience using a one-way mirror? It is powerful, and today I am teaching a group of professionals the different ways that this can be used with clients. Because QIFT takes a multi-positioned stance when working with clients, today the group will learn how to do a consultation message from first generation schools of family therapy as well as how to contribute to a reflecting team discussion as part of second generation ways of working. This one-way mirror image is compliments of the Family Nurture clinic. #familytherapy #familytherapist #livesupervision

Today was definitely one of those days where you check your calendar, make a very obvious late attempt to paratroop into a zoom clinical consultation after a meeting runs long, accidentally say something curious, and get asked to comment on it in a larger discussion where we invite more therapists to weigh in. 😎 So, PSA: calling all therapists, especially those who work with first responders and/or veterans, have you ever heard someone from this population request a therapist that "is not going to cry or fall to pieces if I start talking about my trauma?" How do you navigate these requests without sounding like a robot? Are these the only two options? 😭 or 🤖? Would love to hear your thoughts
Join us in a discussion around the emotions of therapists while providing therapy in the fire service! We explore the difference between emotional flooding and genuine empathy in clinical practice. When a therapist cries, what meaning do we make? How does that impact our perception of competence? Join our mailing list for registration details.
