The term “Irregular Warfare” can be confusing and even a bit scary, but one of the primary intents of irregular warfare is to deter conventional warfare, which should make it feel more comforting than scary. Where we see violent conflict in the world (Ukraine, Israel, Syria) are locations where a more focused application of irregular warfare may have prevented the conflict, saving precious lives and mounting costs. Recently, M6 leadership had the opportunity to talk with Senator Joni Ernst (highlighted in this article) and her staff about the importance of irregular warfare in the context of our current peer nation and strategic competition threat-scape. In addition to needed resources, this legislative support also drives policy development (as seen in comments from Mr Maier and General Milley), interagency and international collaboration (including among industry, academia, and defense), and public awareness of how the application of irregular warfare can save our country’s blood and treasure. Efforts to increase understanding, awareness, and application are ongoing at the Irregular Warfare Center (https://lnkd.in/gay8ucTd). The Center amplifies innovative and adaptable global-networked communities of interest, illuminates current and future threats, and works collaboratively within the US and with allies and partners to address those threats by providing training and options.
