A study by the The National Institutes of Health found motherhood significantly impacts women seeking recovery help. Through a series of interviews, the NIH found that many women listed their children and motherhood responsibilities as key motivators for seeking recovery support. However, motherhood was also seen as a barrier to treatment, as some women feared losing custody of their child if they disclosed their substance use. This study highlights the complexities our residents live with daily. Holistic care that factors in every part of a woman’s life is more important than ever. 📖 Read the full study here: https://buff.ly/4eOBP2k. #DoveHouse #WomensRecovery #Motherhood #Children

Institutional normal vaginal delivery by the midwives can prevent obstetric fistula! Still, there is a big challenge for those women who are delivered at home by untrained birth attendants; in many cases, prolonged and obstructed labour causes treated women’s and baby’s lives. 90% of women who developed #ObstetricFistula deliver stillbirth. The time is now to prevent the occurrence of devastating maternal morbidity #fistula. We have to #prevent together.
We can make #motherhood safer for millions of women worldwide by taking action to #EndFistula. Join the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to demand a world without this traumatic childbirth injury: http://unf.pa/cef #GlobalGoals

Evidence Navigator for Transformative Change: Evaluating the Impact of Food Security and Nutrition Interventions
🌍 This Mother’s Day (in the USA), let’s talk about how we talk about moms. 🌺 In much of our global dialogue, the emphasis on women’s health centers on their roles as mothers, or potential mothers, especially in the field of nutrition. We target the diets of pregnant and lactating women to help their babies…. not the women themselves. In research, we label women between 15-49 as “women of reproductive age”, prioritizing their breeding capacity over their individual identities and independent capacities. Echoing Orwellian overtones, I have heard nutrition experts suggest that “no woman of reproductive age should drink alcohol because half of all pregnancies are unplanned.” This approach not only sidelines their personal health needs but also eliminates their autonomy and rights as individuals. It’s crucial to challenge and change this narrative. Women deserve to be seen and supported not just as bearers of the next generation, but as individuals with diverse needs and aspirations. 📢 Call to Action: Let’s advocate for policies and research that respect and emphasize women’s health beyond their reproductive roles. Join us in pushing for a narrative that celebrates mom's diverse contributions to our societies, recognizing them as complete individuals with the right to make their own choices. #WomensHealth #InternationalDevelopment #MothersDay #Empowerment #ChangeTheNarrative

As a woman in public health, I'm passionate about highlighting issues impacting different groups of women. This Women's History Month, let's shine a light on inequity in Black Maternal Mortality. In the US, Black women are 3-4 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications, a stark disparity rooted in systemic racism, limited healthcare access, and bias in medical settings. To address this, we must ensure equitable healthcare access, diversify the healthcare workforce, and provide culturally competent care. Community-based initiatives and support networks can also play a crucial role. Let's unite to tackle these challenges and support all women on their pregnancy journeys! ✨ #WomensHistoryMonth #MaternalHealth #BlackMaternalHealth
