Michigan Main Street (MMS) is focused on building strong places that attract people, investment, and economic growth. The place-based approach to downtown revitalization encourages local community members to invest in their downtown district by volunteering, supporting downtown businesses, preserving historic resources, and promoting downtown as the heart of the community. #MMS documents self-reported data and highlights from each of its local communities to compile annual reports demonstrating the impact of Main Street programming both at the local level and statewide. Main Street communities across the state totaled $17,485,873 in private investment from 2022-2023. That brings the total amount of private investment in #MiMainStreet communities to $424,613,279 since the program's inception in 2003. Day 4 of a #sharednarrative for #Plymouth: A city at the edge. We believe that viewing Plymouth as a city on the edge allows us to embrace our past, bringing it forward in a positive manner and tapping into the potential found in the transitional #liminal spaces - amidst our dialogue, between people, and between organisations. Exciting! At the edge geographically, at the edge of the ocean, the edge of the county, in the far south west of the country. Practically, at the edge of power and on the edge (including the forefront) of practice. At the edge of intersecting communities, it holds the strengths and tensions and benefits of being a military, university, and working class city all at once. Historically, it has been a valued friend to #power (see its naval history), a neglected friend (see the Plymouth blitz and its silencing) and also a rebellious enemy (see the Siege of Plymouth) of power. A city of many neighbourhoods, it hosts both prosperity and deprivation in differing forms - indeed, where there may not be material wealth there is often community wealth. Welcomeness, civic action, determination, grit and mutual support are a key part of the city’s social character. This is seen in POP’s membership of 380 active and diverse groups and that 26% of adult residents in Plymouth volunteer at least once per month. CEO Downtown Detroit Partnership @DDPDetroit & Owner, President/CEO Larson Realty Group @EricLarsonLRG
Two potentially game-changing Downtown Detroit Partnership projects are receiving significant funding thanks to federal grants and private money. On Thursday, we announced the DDP received a $2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation for the I-75 Overbuild Planning Project. The monies allow the DDP and partners to expand community engagement and feasibility studies to analyze building a deck or lid over I-75 to reconnect north, Greater Downtown, and Brush Park neighborhoods with Downtown. The first phase of our work was made possible through a planning grant from The Kresge Foundation who is committed to a more connected Detroit. Olympia Development of Michigan, and Related Companies also agreed to a $400,000 match as part of tax incentives and a community benefits agreement. By working with the City of Detroit, and the Michigan Department of Transportation, this is precisely the type of collaborative and forward-thinking activity we need to see what’s possible for Downtown Detroit. Combined with DDP's work on the I-375 Rebuilding Communities, we have the potential to repair and reconnect in ways that prioritizes community, connection, inclusivity, equity, and economic development and revitalization. Please read this article from Crain's Detroit Business. I look forward to sharing more on these projects in the coming weeks and months and grateful for these opportunities that tap into the DDP’s strengths. Impact in Focus: In honor of CPC’s 50th year, and in celebration of completing renovations to 16 Manhattan NYCHA developments, we’re shining the spotlight on the PACT Renaissance Collaborative. In 2019, New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), the nation's largest housing authority, chose the PACT Renaissance Collaborative (PRC) to renovate and revitalize 1,700 apartments across 16 Manhattan developments that are home to nearly 3,000 residents. PRC is comprised of CPC, Monadnock Development, The Community Development Trust, Community League of the Heights (CLOTH), Kalel Companies, and Lemor Development Group. Our participation in NYCHA’s innovative PACT-RAD program further cemented CPC as a trusted organization committed to enhancing the living conditions of NYC residents. We’re delighted to have successfully transformed these buildings into the #affordable, #safe, and #equitable homes their tenants deserve. This work has a meaningful effect on the lives of New Yorkers, and we can’t wait to see how much more impact we can make in the next 50 years. Please follow along all year long as we celebrate our 50th anniversary by highlighting the projects, people, and communities that have made CPC what it is today. #CPC50th #50YearsofImpact #50YearsofInnovation

EARMARKS: We don't know when the Earmarks will be announced, but we know it'll be here before you know it, and then you'll have to move quickly! Get a leg up by watching this webinar from the National Safe and Healthy Housing Coalition, "Using Earmark Funding for Healthy Housing." Watch it here: https://lnkd.in/erwhcHDj. Description: In 2021, Congress resumed funding individual projects at the community level, through Community Project Funding/Congressionally Directed Spending (also known as "earmarks"). There have now been two complete cycles of federal appropriations that have included earmarks, and several states and localities have used this funding to support work to improve housing quality and address environmental hazards. In this webinar, a panel of organizations who have applied for or received this funding reflect on their experiences with the process and how their projects will support healthy homes. The webinar also describes how the earmark process works and how to navigate it as an applicant. Presenters: • Ruth Ann Norton, President and CEO, Green & Healthy Homes Initiative, Baltimore, MD. • Jolene Lyon, President and CEO, Bering Straits Regional Housing Authority, Nome, AK. • Lisa Ramsey, Deputy Director, Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership, Warren, OH. #Congress #Earmarks #Appropriations #HealthyHomes #HealthyHousing #PublicHealth #EnvironmentalHealth #LeadPoisoning #Asthma #OlderAdults

Yesterday, March 3rd, representatives of California Community Reinvestment Corporation virtually attended the National Housing Conference (NHC)’s “2024 Solutions for Housing Communications” convening. The event featured panels with pro-housing thought leaders, who joined to discuss the importance of accurate, subversive, and poignant storytelling when building public support for housing. Pro-housing advocacy must contend with the misinformed narratives on risk, public feelings of helplessness, and personal apathies that surround housing activism to mobilize all hands available to address the shortage. Outreach efforts must also take comprehensive steps to engage diverse perspectives, with the end goal being to make the fight as collective as possible. Everyone has stock in an equitably housed nation, and engaging with solutions today will invariably improve the future for all. The creation of adequate housing supply is still tentative, but CCRC is committed to both advocacy and action in the continued fight for an equitable housing market. Follow our work to finance affordable housing throughout the state of California on our website at e-ccrc.org/news or here on LinkedIn! #affordablehousing #NHC #SolutionsforHousingCommunications

Veteran Housing Corp says that IF YOU ARE NOT PART OF A PERMANENT AND LASTING SOLUTION TO THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING CRISIS AND HOMELESSNESS, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM! THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX IS BROKEN AND NOT WORKING FOR AMERICAN TAXPAYERS Veteran Housing Corp would ask every TAXPAYER to demand and get answers from their elected and appointed government officials the below questions as they relate to any affordable, workforce, or supportive housing project in your community! 1. How much local, state, and federal funding, tax credits, or other government benefits or incentives did the project receive? 2. What is the affordability period for each project? Is the affordability period permanent and in perpetuity? 3. What guarantees exist have your local, state, and federal government officials obtained in writing that rents will not go up or that tenants will not be displaced or evicted after the "affordability period expires? Every local, state, and federal housing authority and affordable or workforce housing stakeholder should adopt the State of Vermont's "permanent affordability" policy as a model for all future government funded or subsidized housing projects or developments, no exceptions! https://lnkd.in/eFEUC8c8 Additionally, local, state and federal housing agencies should look to the Helsinki, FINLAND MODEL of ending homelessness by providing affordable housing for all 'It’s a miracle': Helsinki's radical solution to homelessness https://lnkd.in/er9HZSQU Even the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development AGREES THAT adopting FINLAND'S MODEL OF ERADICATING HOMELESSNESS may be of great value to resolving the affordable housing and homelessness crises in America https://lnkd.in/gkSZWYRU

Day 18 of a #sharednarrative for #Plymouth: There are more possibilities in play! Stonehouse: Building on everything that is great about Stonehouse, this aims to be a ambitious neighbourhood scale demonstration of what a regenerative, healthy, economically vibrant neighbourhood could look like. Led by Nudge Community Builders, it specifically wishes to bring focus onto 3 critical aspects to unlocking this future: * property and land ownership for wealth retention; * what a financial ecosystem needs to look like to lubricate and help fuel the future to emerge; and * how we organise ourselves that unlocks our humanness. National Marine Park - https://buff.ly/4cCP0Ri Plymouth has been awarded £11.6 million from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to develop the UK’s first National Marine Park with a forward-thinking approach to urban planning and environmental sustainability. This could enable us to deeply consider our natural assets at a city level and what it would really take to steward them healthily in collaboration as a city. Freeport - https://buff.ly/4dtJQse The Plymouth and South Devon Freeport is aiming to attract investment into marine, defence and space technologies (inc military vehicles and submarines) and significant investments are planned in Plymouth in areas of , construction and ocean technologies – how will these investments truly account and solve for the material and environmental constraints and the externalities (indirect impacts) that are associated with them?
