New Space at #spacetechexpoeurope Today I had the pleasure to moderate a session on scaling up SMEs in the space industry with some of the most successful companies in the industry: Isar Aerospace, Kongsberg NanoAvionics, Spire and Exotrail. We addressed some of the most pressing topics to go from start-up to successful space company. > How do you achieve scale without running out of funds in such a capital intensive industry? In short: Anchor customer(s), strict cost control, healthy competition to remain on edge and alignment of funding with development milestones. > How do you ensure that scaling is done properly without stretching your know-how of the workforce too thin? In short: Process standardization, correct competence profiles, structured know-how ramp-up and targeted automation. > What roles play industrialization, standardation and automation in the pursuite of scale and success? In short: All three are important but industrialization and standardization are key to keep CapEx and OpEx in control and to make space accessible to all industries.
