Airways International Ltd (AIL) and Tāwhaki Joint Venture have announced a groundbreaking collaboration aimed at advancing the New Zealand aerospace sector. This partnership focuses on enabling the safe integration of new and existing aerospace technologies, as highlighted in a recent press release.
The agreement outlines key target areas to expedite the testing of uncrewed aircraft, benefiting operators, policymakers, and regulators in New Zealand and globally. Tāwhaki will soon deploy Airways’ latest uncrewed traffic management (UTM) system, Airshare, at the National Aerospace Centre at Kaitorete. AirShare aims to enhance airspace safety and efficiency by providing operators with a comprehensive view of airspace activity.
The partnership also plans to establish flight corridors to explore future operational concepts supporting new types of aircraft. The data collected from these initiatives will aid policymakers, regulators, and standards development organizations in preparing for the widespread use of new and uncrewed aircraft.
Linda Falwasser, CEO of Tāwhaki, stated, “We need to be responsive and progressive in how we help this sector grow. Working together to find practical, forward-looking solutions is key. We’re thrilled to partner with Airways International to safely develop more sustainable transport options and tackle some of the big challenges facing our people and planet.”
The press release further emphasizes Tāwhaki’s role in attracting global companies and supporting aerospace endeavors from research and development to innovative start-ups and full-scale operators at its National Aerospace Centre. Recognized as one of the world’s premier locations for aerospace, launch, and space exploration, Tāwhaki is at the forefront of this industry.
