🏞️ Champion of the Environment Video Campaign 📺 #Animals play a vital role in maintaining balance on #Earth, yet we ignore their importance. It is crucial to raise #awareness and educate the unaware about the consequences of our #actions on these gentle beasts. I have recently participated in the annual Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) competition, where I chose the declining population of the #Malayan #Tapir as my main subject matter. 🦏 With only 2,000 left in the wild globally, roadkill and habitat loss are the major killers of this animal. Therefore, I carefully crafted and #edited a video that highlighted its threats and how we can unite, as conservationists, to save the Tapir from extinction. Due to my message and powerful explanation, I managed to win #First #Prize on the #national Malaysian stage, for the age category 14-17! 🏆 I hope my project is selected for the #global stage, as it would align with the goal of raising #awareness and conserving the Malayan Tapir. Many set out early with poles or spears to catch fish gliding among the corals — fresh food for them, their families and their community. By the afternoon, a freshly caught fat tuna arrives onshore. The coast, too, is livelier now: kids surf and play in the turquoise ocean, families rest on the beach where the sea and river meet, and the sole snack bar is open for a fish lunch. But it's Teahupo'o's awesome wave that catches many people's attention. The impressively high walls of water — formed as the ocean rushes across a large and very shallow coral reef — crash into perfect cylinders for surfers to glide through. The Icelandic government will announce its decision on whaling licences on June 4th. Hvalur hf.'s application for a licence to hunt fin whales, which are vulnerable to extinction, has been pending for almost four months. Now, Minister Bjarkey Olsen Gunnarsdóttir, is close to making a decision. This is a pivotal moment for marine conservation. Iceland has the opportunity to become a leader, demonstrating that sustainable practices and respect for marine life are the future. Ending commercial whaling in Iceland could lead the way for other nations, including Norway and Japan. The protection of whales and dolphins is a global responsibility.
