Hot off the Press!!! The first paper to explore the perspectives of researchers engaging in psychological research with Majority World communities re: the barriers they experience and recommendations. Several commentaries and journal analyses have highlighted the narrow focus of published scholarship in psychological science on individuals in WEIRD (western, educated, industrialized, rich, democratic) countries/ the Global North/ the Minority World. We hope this paper leads to acknowledgment of bias in publication and funding practices, initiatives to remove this bias and contributes to promoting a global science

Exciting news in the field of publications! Lisa Eckmann has successfully published her second paper from her dissertation together with Jan Landwehr in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied: https://lnkd.in/e2Xr_YvS   Based on experiments and a field dataset, the paper demonstrates that brands benefit when advertised with only one semantic attribute rather than multiple attributes. This is also evident from the "Public Significance Statement" by Lisa and Jan: "This research suggests that pairing only one attribute instead of multiple attributes with a new brand results in the strongest association of the brand with that attribute. If multiple attributes are paired with the brand, brand–attribute associations are stronger if attributes are related than when they are unrelated. Here is the link to the paper: https://lnkd.in/ehUiid9U And here is the impact statement: «Social essentialist bias contributes to negative attitudes and behaviors such as prejudice and discrimination. This article investigates factors, including biological perception of social categories, cultural input, and motivational factors, in the development of social essentialism in Iran, an understudied population in psychology research. The article also compares this bias among Iranian adults and children to adults and children in the United States and Turkey. The findings show that across all three cultures, biological perception of social categories plays a prominent role in essentialism, but cultural and motivational factors add interesting nuance to patterns of social essentialism, especially with respect to social categories that are not perceived as biologically underpinned.»

For centuries, historians have considered it a great mystery: what exactly were first Ancient Greek philosopher's going on about? Now, a new research article from American Psychologist: "Psychologists Return to the First Question in Western Philosophy" https://lnkd.in/gi-gaB8D I was SUPER self-conscious the whole time I was writing this. From p. 3 of the supplement: "Is it really the case that my professional research interests happen to have such high-sounding historical origins? Surely not." But it does! It's also 100% the most interesting paper I've ever published. And a personal milestone: this research space is maturing beyond me and I'm thrilled. The paper also includes an updated summary of primal world belief research over the last five years, for those who are interested. But for me the most interesting part was that identifying first questions in early history may have value for psychological theorizing because it hints at something that social psychologists have long suspected: that humans are creatures fundamentally driven to understand their situation and what it calls for. I hope you enjoy it! Thanks to @abwclifton, Martin Seligman, Nick Kerry, Ben Lipscomb, Rive Cadwallader, and so many others who made this manuscript so much better.

The ORCID, (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) is a nonproprietary alphanumeric code to uniquely identify authors and contributors of scholarly communication. It provides a persistent identity for humans, similar to tax ID numbers, that are created for content-related entities on digital networks by digital object identifiers (DOIs). In academic publishing, ORCID IDs are used to accurately and efficiently link researchers to their published works. When submitting a manuscript, authors can include their ORCID ID to ensure their contributions are correctly attributed, regardless of name variations or changes in affiliation. Many publishers and journals require or encourage authors to provide their ORCID ID during the submission process. This integration helps prevent confusion between researchers with similar names and simplifies the tracking of an individual’s research output. ORCID IDs also facilitate the aggregation of research metrics and enable seamless updating of publication lists in researchers’ profiles and institutional repositories.
