Empowered Endings is grateful to be a part of the launch of a groundbreaking medical journal focused on the practice of Medical Aid in Dying (MAiD). This valuable resource is tailored for hospice and palliative care clinicians who have integrated or are considering integrating MAiD into their practice. Partnering with corresponding author Dr. Robert Gunn, Empowered Endings Co-Founders Elizabeth and Dr. Bob Uslander published the article, "Bereavement Support Groups for Medical-Aid-in-Dying Family Members." The article delves into the unique characteristics of grief after an aid-in-dying death, shedding light on the scarcity of specific bereavement support services for family members and the impact of aid-in-dying-specific services on the bereavement process. Read the full article and explore the other insightful pieces and information in the first issue: #empoweredendings #aidindying #medicalaidindying #endoflifecare #bereavement #deathwithdignity #grief

The impact of friendship and community cannot be overstated. Community is fundamental. It is the key to negotiating perilous times through support and shared experiences. With a strong community, anything is possible. When doubts arise, as they inevitably do, a community can provide an invaluable sounding board of encouragement and reality checks. And when our own internal beliefs aren’t up to the task, we can borrow the beliefs we have in each other to keep us moving forward. And let’s be honest, having a group of people you can relate to and who get what you’re going through is just nice. Physicians are entrenched in community throughout our training, but the camaraderie all but disappears as we reach attendinghood. Community may just be one of the most significant missing pieces for physicians in modern-day medicine that drives physician burnout, overwhelm, and overall discontent. Who is your community? Does something prevent you from finding or creating the community you need? How might having a community change your life and career? Healing the Healers: Prioritizing Self-Care in Healthcare part 1 Have you ever lost a patient that you thought would have lived?? after CPR / Advanced resuscitation??? As healthcare professionals, we've all experienced trauma - both personal and professional. Our threshold for traumatic events varies, but the negative outcomes can be long-lasting and far-reaching, affecting us physically, psychologically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. The consequences can be devastating: depression, anxiety, avoidance or hyper-vigilance in resuscitation, substance abuse, desensitization to death, compassion fatigue, and a changed worldview. We are, indeed, the wounded healers. So, how can we take care of ourselves in the midst of chaos? Two crucial avenues for self-care are: 1. Formal and informal debriefs: Let's create safe spaces to process our experiences and emotions, fostering a culture of openness and support. 2. Intentional self-care: Develop a strong support system at home and work, take time to decompress, and engage in physical activities that nourish your mind, body, and spirit. Let's prioritize our well-being, so we can continue to heal and care for others with compassion and resilience. Share your own self-care strategies and experiences in the comments below! _Uju Dora_ERN Am sure you can see what am carrying on my right hand , am off to eat🤗Do same👌 #HealingTheHealers #HealthcareSelfCare #MentalHealthMatters #CompassionInAction #WellnessAtWork #UjudoraERN

I help family members of addicted loved ones seek and receive the best treatment possible for substance misuse
Time is just flying by! It's hard to believe that it's going on SIX months since I became a SUN - Substance Use Navigator for DHEV. I have changed and grown in so many different ways; and this opportunity has shown me that my own lived experience with a loved one's addiction had a very significant and meaningful purpose.... even if I couldn't it see it at the time. And, since starting this position, personal growth isn't the only thing I've been incredibly fortunate to obtain, but I've also experienced some professional growth as well! Take a look! 🕶 These are the top 11 things that (I think) a SUN ☀ COULD add to their resume: 🌅 Social Worker 🌅 Interventionist 🌅 Recovery Coach 🌅 Sober Companion 🌅 Therapist 🌅 Couples Counselor 🌅 Peer Support Specialist 🌅 Case Manager 🌅 Discharge Planner 🌅 Community Liaison/Business Development 🌅 Patient Advocate These are just some of the things that I get to do daily when I meet with patients and their families to provide them with resources, support, and talk to them about their treatment options. It's all about meeting our patients where they're at and being a trusted resource to help guide them on their path to recovery. The SUNs in this video sum up the importance of our position so well; and it makes me really proud to do what I do. #substanceabuse #substancemisuse #substanceabusetreatment #recovery #recoveryispossible #wedorecover
