Greenstone Resources Limited is pleased to be featured in the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade)’s Australian Critical Minerals Prospectus 2023, which details the Mt Thirsty Project investment summary. The Mt Thirsty Project, 150km south of Kalgoorlie, is focused on open-pit mining and extraction of #cobalt, #nickel, and #manganese from a large, flat-lying, shallow, and soft orebody. Following a 145% increase in the Mt Thirsty resource in April 2023, the JV commenced a Scoping Study. The Scoping Study is evaluating high-pressure acid leaching (HPAL) as the ore processing method, followed by solvent extraction to produce cathode precursor and sulphate products. This is favoured over atmospheric leaching used in previous studies due to significantly higher metal recovery rates associated with HPAL. HPAL also allows for the recovery of additional metals like #scandium and #manganese, not previously recovered by atmospheric leaching. PNS – A Game-Changer in Ore Flotation Quebracho and lignosulfonate are increasingly being replaced by Poly naphthalene sulfonate (PNS) which is primarily driven by the superior efficiency of PNS in the flotation and depression techniques used for ore concentration. Also known as Naphthalene Sulfonate Condensate (FDN) or Sodium Naphthalene Formaldehyde (SNF), PNS can play a pivotal role in the evolving field of mineral processing. PNS enhances the selective separation of valuable minerals from their ore by increasing the hydrophilicity of unwanted mineral particles, effectively depressing their floatability. This results in a more concentrated and purer extraction of the target mineral. The adoption of PNS not only improves the environmental footprint of mining operations by reducing the quantities of chemicals required but also enhances the overall recovery rates and cost-effectiveness of mineral processing. E-waste recycling in an integrated pyro-hydrometallurgical facility with metal concentrates is a mature technology. For quite some time, I have explored e-waste processing differently, including the potential of e-waste recycling hydrometallurgically in a mining and mineral processing environment. Based on the initial work in 2019 (Fernando et al., 2019 - Hydrometallurgy), the latest work analyses emerging e-waste co-processing methods with ore minerals or their derivatives. Yes, there are challenges, and hopefully, this work drive further research in this field.
