To enhance their ability to conduct and utilize research in clinical practice, early involvement of medical students is essential. Addressing the barriers hindering medical students from conducting research is crucial to foster their interest and enable exploration across various research contexts. Our systematic review, spanning the last five years, delves into the interests and obstacles faced by medical students in research. Through meticulous search methodology on PubMed and CINAHL, we identified and analyzed 28 pertinent studies. Results underscored a substantial interest in research among medical students. Predominant barriers included time constraints, lack of research education, funding limitations, and limited opportunities. Additionally, challenges such as statistical analysis, study approval, and paper writing were notable. Our discussion outlines these barriers comprehensively and offers actionable solutions. This gap hinders knowledge and interest in research. We're on a mission to change that! I am Maryam Taha, a dedicated medical researcher . I have faced numerous obstacles in my learning journey, and I hope to help all medical students interested in research to overcome these challenges peacefully. My project aims to address the challenge faced by International Medical Graduates (IMGs) by creating a research platform that fosters connectivity among students and mentors. This platform will serve as a hub where students can connect with one another, facilitating collaboration and knowledge exchange. Who is an Head of the Department? As NEET-PG is round the corner, Let's talk about it.. Being an active Medical LinkedIn user, I have come across many profiles of doctors claiming to be "The Head of Department" but who are really qualified for holding this highly regarded position? NMC Teachers eligibility qualification 2022 clearly mention that : "The Heads of the Departments of broad and super specialty courses shall possess *a recognized* Postgraduate broad specialty and super specialty degree, as the case may be, in the concerned specialty." Senior-most professor with 8 year post PG (MD/DNB/MS) experience. i. Associate Professor in the subject for three years in a permitted/ recognized medical college/ institution. ii. Should have at least four Research publications (at least two as Associate Professor) [only original papers, meta- analysis, systematic reviews, and case seriesthat are published in journals indexed in Medline, PubMed, Central Science Citation Index, Science Citation Index, Expanded Embase, Scopus, Directory of Open Access Journals (DoAJ) will be considered]. iii. Should have completed the basic course in Medical Education Technology from Institutions designated by NMC. iv. Should have completed the Basic course in Biomedical Research from Institutions designated by NMC. Similar guidelines apply to DNB training hospital departments as well. Therefore I honestly urge the medical fraternity and residents to understand the importance of a departmental head and not fall prey towards social media influencers and big corporates who sell expensive courses online labelled as "Postgraduate course/Fellowship / Masters" Make an informed decision while selecting your future PG institute and course, because unrecognised, online courses of any clinical speciality can't make you a specialist in it, similarly inexperienced/unqualified doctors masquerading as HODs can't train you to become the clinician you want to be. #FOAMED #EMERGENCYMEDICINE #MASTERSPROGRAM #NMC #MEDICALEDUCATION

Hello LinkedIn Community, I would like to open discussion for a matter, In recent years, there has been a growing emphasis on the number of publications medical students have, often overshadowing the quality and impact of their research. This trend is concerning as it encourages the publication of low-impact, poorly designed studies, which ultimately harms the field. It’s perplexing to see newly graduated students with more publications than seasoned professors, highlighting a systemic issue. While research is undeniably important, it should not be the primary focus for students. The acquisition of skills and knowledge should take precedence. I’ve encountered students who sacrifice their education to dedicate more time to research, which is counterproductive. Research should be a complementary aspect of medical education, not the main focus. Every medical student and physician should have a foundational understanding of research to appreciate how science works and to navigate it effectively. Research experience enhances critical thinking and problem-solving skills, but the extent of this experience should align with individual interests and career goals. I believe that a balanced approach, where research complements rather than overshadows education, is essential. I would love to hear your thoughts on this matter
