Last week, a few DCM employees had the privilege of attending the 2024 Spring Benefit for the All Stars Project of Chicago. It was a pleasure to hear from the individuals who have been participating in the program and the positive impact it has had on their lives. A special thanks to our Chief Operating and Financial Officer, Bob Kurinsky, who sits on the board of the All Stars Project of Chicago and has been leader and champion of their youth development program.

🌟 Empowering Parents, Boosting Families, and Supporting Local Businesses with RHCK! 🚀💼 I'm excited to share with you the transformative impact of Raising Highly Capable Kids (RHCK), a cutting-edge parent-facing program that's not just shaping families but also playing a crucial role in supporting our local businesses. At the heart of RHCK is a focus on training parents – the primary influencers in a child's life. This "parent-facing" approach recognizes the significance of your role and equips you with the tools needed to navigate the challenges and joys of parenthood. So, why is this significant for local businesses? 1️⃣ Work-Life Balance: As parents gain valuable insights into effective time management and communication, local businesses benefit from a workforce that's not only skilled but also balanced, contributing positively to workplace dynamics. 2️⃣ Community Connection: Strengthening families is key to building resilient communities. When parents are empowered, it creates a ripple effect of support that extends to local businesses, fostering a sense of community and collaboration. 3️⃣ Consumer Loyalty: RHCK understands that strong family bonds contribute to a thriving local economy. As parents actively engage with their communities, it leads to increased support for local businesses, creating a loyal customer base. Join me in celebrating the impact of RHCK on families and local businesses alike! Tag someone you think might be interested. Let's continue to empower parents, strengthen families, and build communities where local businesses thrive. Together, we can make a difference! In nearly 20 years - I’ve personally worked in schools in Pittsburgh, Chicago (city and suburbs), San Francisco, and the North Bay of San Francisco. One thing is consistently true - our schools are systemically and historically segregated - racially and socio-economically. Overwhelmingly, Black and Latino/a students attend schools that abhorrently under-resourced in every aspect - staffing, educational resources, enrichment opportunities, safety, and basic best practices. Meanwhile, their predominantly white peers at neighboring school districts benefit, learn, and grow with ample opportunities and resources (and of course funding from various sources including active parent associations filling the gaps). I’ve dedicated the majority of my work to bridging access to the arts and creativity for systemically marginalized communities — here is the part where I tell you all the data that points to the arts as a catalyst for increasing student opportunity and potential —— I believe that AND it’s not enough. Our SYSTEMS need significant and sweeping change. 70 years since #BrownvsBoardofEducation…but our education and socioeconomic policies continue to uphold systems that are hurting families and students. This OpEd resonated with my tired arts advocate heart. Our work helps - but we are swimming against currents and tides that need more sweeping change in direction. If you’re out there - and work in this space - let’s keep working toward sweeping change. I believe it can happen. #education #hope #artseducation

After graduating with my MBA from the University of Florida - Warrington College of Business in Spring 2022, I, untraditionally, decided to continue my education and pursue a Graduate Certificate in Disability Studies from the University of Florida. While I have my own experiences with disability, by no means would I label myself as an "expert” in disability. I recognize the diversity within disability and accept that my experiences are unique to myself. With that in mind, my goal in learning about disability studies was to gain further knowledge on what I can do to make the corporate environment, and our world in general, a place that fosters inclusion and belonging for individuals with disabilities. As part of the certificate program, one of my course assignments was to create a grant proposal (real or fictional) relating to disability. Because I had very minimal familiarity with grant proposals, I was initially worried about the assignment and if I could actually create something meaningful. However, rather than taking the easy way out and writing a fictional grant proposal, I challenged myself to craft something that can be utilized by Laughing At My Nightmare, Inc., where I have the great honor of serving as Board Chair. The majority of individuals and families we assist through the organization do not have the financial resources to independently obtain the equipment or services they need as a result of their disability. Reflecting on this further, I felt that it was essential to provide a sustainable pathway that would hopefully lead to financial independence and security for people with disabilities. I fully believe in the power of education and how it can unlock a higher earning potential and benefits for the disability community, which can then result in independence, but I recognize that barriers often exist. As a result, my grant proposal assignment ultimately led to the creation of the new Laughing At My Nightmare, Inc. Academic Scholarship Program. This year, we are thrilled to offer 1-2 individuals living with muscular dystrophy a full-ride scholarship (covering all tuition, fees, & course materials) to obtain an undergraduate or graduate degree, removing cost-associated barriers to higher education. The application is now available and will remain open until April 5, 2024. It is still difficult for me to fully comprehend how a class assignment, which I was not entirely thrilled about, resulted in an actual scholarship program that will hopefully help so many people with disabilities for years to come. Above all, I am most excited that our future recipients will be able to obtain an education and pursue their dreams. #disability #education #scholarships #scholarshipopportunity #musculardystrophy #nonprofit #LAMN

To get better, more equitable outcomes for youth and families, we have to give youth decision making power. To do so, Cradle to Career Fresno County supported a youth-led impact assessment aimed at understanding and addressing the lack of STEM diversity at a local high school.
