This event wasn't just about free laundry supplies, popcorn, and games—it was about connecting with our community where they are. Events like this are crucial to poverty reduction. By offering immediate resources and support, we create pathways for long-term change. For many Americans, achieving a sense of dignity can be challenging, especially when government assistance programs are structured in a way that traps them in a cycle of poverty. This is particularly true for single mothers like Latesha Jackson and Marshayla Walker, who have faced obstacles such as unfinished education or being pushed out of the job market after having a child. Georgia Center for Opportunity (GCO), an Atlas Network partner, is working to break this cycle through their Better Work initiative. This program helps single mothers by providing resources, mentorship, and opportunities for meaningful employment. Thanks to GCO, Latesha pursued her degree in Business Administration while working in a fulfilling job, and Marshayla has found a job she loves after completing a degree in Human Resources.
