Mousehole: An opening in the rig floor near the rotary table, but between the rotary table and the vee-door, that enables rapid connections while drilling. The mousehole is usually fitted underneath with a length of casing, usually with a bottom. A joint of drillpipe that will be used next in the drilling operation is placed in the mousehole, box end up, by the rig crew at a convenient time (immediately after the previous connection is made). When the bit drills down and the kelly is near the rotary table, another piece of drillpipe must be added for drilling to continue. This next piece of pipe is standing in the mousehole when the kelly is screwed onto it. Then the kelly and the joint of pipe in the mousehole are raised to remove the pipe from the mousehole, the mousehole pipe screwed onto the rest of the drillstring, and the drillstring lowered, rotated, and pumped through to continue drilling. Another piece of pipe is put in the mousehole to await the next connection. #mousehole #drilling #oilandgas #oilfield #drillingrig #oil #petroleum #oilandgasindustry #drill #oilfieldlife #offshore #engineering #oilindustry

What is the primary function of a Rotating Control Device (RCD) in Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD)? A) To maintain constant wellbore pressure while allowing fluid returns to the surface B) To provide a secondary barrier to well control in underbalanced operations C) To increase pump efficiency by reducing friction losses D) To control formation influx by adjusting the flow rate from the annulus

An Operator needed to complete two 10 5/8-in. intermediate hole sections in Howard County, TX. Because the sections were known for hole stability issues, high concentrations of lost circulation materials (LCM) would need to be pumped through the BHA. They also needed an RSS that would hold angle in the intermediate sections without sliding to maximize performance. The D-Tech Rotary Steerable team and tool was able to pump the high LCM without issue and successfully completed the two runs back to back, each in one run. - Drilled 12,600+ ft over the two wells - Reduced drilling time between Well 1 and 2 - 6,715 ft were completed in 22 drilling hours - Held angle and completed both in one run Contact us to learn more about how you can reduce downtime and maximize performance with the #1 independent rotary steerable tool on your next well. Continuous improvement. Superior performance. Exceptional reliability. The option you can trust. #dtechdrillingtools #performancedrilling #dtechrotarysteerable #nextgenerationrss #continuousimprovement #rss #rotarysteerable #dtech #dtechdrilling #drillingtools #houston #directionaldrilling

Engineer - Managed Pressure Drilling, Constant Bottom Hole Pressure, Pressurized Mud Cap Drilling, Closed Hole Circulation Drilling, Nitrogen Cup Drilling
Understanding Annular Pressure Losses in Managed Pressure Drilling (#MPD) #Annular #Pressure #Losses (#APL) are a critical aspect of #Managed #Pressure #Drilling (MPD) operations, directly impacting the ability to maintain #wellbore #stability and control. APL refers to the pressure drop that occurs as #drilling #fluid circulates through the annular space between the drill string and the wellbore. Understanding and managing this pressure loss is vital for optimizing drilling efficiency and ensuring safety. Why APL Matters in MPD? 1. Wellbore Stability: Properly managing APL is essential to maintaining the desired bottom-hole pressure (BHP). Mismanagement can lead to wellbore instability, resulting in formation damage or even well control incidents. 2. Accurate Pressure Control: MPD systems rely on precise pressure control to manage the equivalent circulating density (#ECD) within the wellbore. APL directly affects ECD, influencing decisions on mud weight, pump rates, and choke settings. 3. Optimization of #Drilling Parameters: By understanding APL, engineers can optimize drilling parameters, reducing non-productive time (#NPT) and enhancing overall drilling performance. This includes adjusting flow rates, mud properties, and selecting the appropriate drill bit. Key Considerations for Managing APL: - Mud Rheology: The viscosity and density of the drilling fluid play a significant role in APL. #Engineers must carefully select and adjust mud properties to maintain optimal pressure conditions. - Well #Geometry: The size and shape of the wellbore, including any deviations or doglegs, impact APL. Detailed well planning and real-time monitoring are crucial to anticipate and manage these losses. - #Drill #String Design: The design and configuration of the drill string, including tool joints and stabilizers, affect the flow dynamics within the annulus. Engineers must consider these factors when #planning MPD operations. In MPD, the goal is to maintain the drilling window by keeping the #BHP within the desired range, minimizing the risk of kicks or losses. Effective management of APL ensures that the pressure at the bit remains stable, allowing for safer and more efficient drilling operations. By staying informed and vigilant about APL, drilling #engineers can make better decisions that enhance safety and efficiency in MPD operations.

Horizontal Directional Drilling- HDD Horizontal Directional Drilling- HDD is an advanced trenchless method of installing underground utilities, such as pipelines and cables, without the need for traditional open-cut excavation. This technique involves drilling a borehole at a shallow depth below the surface and then gradually curving the drill path to follow a horizontal trajectory. The Process is guided by adyanced drilling equipment technology, allowing for precise control over the direction and depth of the drill. Particularly useful in urban areas, river crossings, and environmentally sensitive locations where minimizing surface disruption is essential. HDD include reduced environmental impact, cost savings compared to traditional methods, and the ability to navigate challenging terrains.

𝗕𝗛𝗔 A bottom hole assembly (BHA) is a component of a drilling rig. It is the lowest part of the drill string, extending from the bit to the drill pipe. The assembly can consist of drill collars, subs such as stabilizers, reamers, shocks, hole-openers, and the bit sub and bit. The BHA design is based upon the requirements of having enough weight transfer to the bit (WOB) to be able to drill and achieve a sufficient Rate of Penetration (ROP), giving the Driller or Directional Driller directional control to drill as per the planned trajectory and to also include whatever Logging While Drilling (LWD) / Measurement While Drilling (MWD) tools for formation evaluation. As such BHA design can vary greatly from simple vertical wells with little or now LWD requirements to complex directional wells which must run multi-combo LWD suites. Prior to running a BHA most oilfield service providers have software to model the BHA behaviour such as the maximum WOB achievable, the directional tendencies & capabilities and even the natural harmonics of the assembly as to avoid vibration brought about by exciting natural frequencies.

Hoisting Rig Capacity When a drilling line is operated close to the minimum design factor, care should be taken that the rope and related equipment are in good operating condition. The force or overpull required to free a stuck drill string or release completion retrievable packer must be applied in addition to the load already supported by the drilling rig and the drill pipe. This combined force often exceeds the safe tensile strength of the drill pipe, and sometimes the hoisting capacity of the drilling rig. Remember that a spark becomes a flame if the right conditions happen, a flame eventually becomes embers if the wrong conditions happen. By sharing your field experience, state the main cause of the accident in that video below 👇 and define how to avoid its happening.
