The International Mass Timber Conference in Portland is now *officially* underway 🥳😆 But this isn’t the only time of the year that we share our passion for mass timber with others… In addition to respect structural engineers with a global reach, we are also bona-fide mass timber enthusiasts. To us, this means that we’re passionate about (and regularly relied upon for our knowledge of) mass timber design, production and fabrication, and construction. Our expertise in this area is proven through our repeated successful project work on projects like the Blue Crane “Via” development in Springdale, Arkansas. This exciting development is focused on addressing the need for affordable housing in Arkansas – prioritizing speed of construction in addition to sustainability, and ultimately taking full advantage of the strategic structural use of mass timber. As a result, the Via Northwest Arkansas Industrialized Construction Program was recognized in October 2023 as one of the top five projects in the Softwood Lumber Board’s 2023 Mass Timber Competition. Did you know Alliance and South Dallas have seen more industrial space added since 2020 than most other metropolitan areas have in the last decade? This record-shattering construction cycle in DFW’s outfield might be coming to a close, as recent figures suggest developers are beginning to look inwards once again as price differences erode. Outfield activity peaked in early 2023, consisting of nearly 83% of all ongoing industrial construction at the time. Since then, the spread has been shrinking as developers move forward with plans to bring new space to key infield locations like D/FW Airport or the Eastern Lonestar Turnpike. Newly christened projects, like the Shady Grove Logistics Crossing in Grand Prairie, show an appetite for new infield industrial space returning to the market. Didn't want to miss showcasing this approval as it is another huge win for Woodbridge and the whole region. On January 17th the Woodbridge Planning Board approved 235 Residential Units, a new medical office/office building and new restaurant space at the Metropark Station. Stonefield Engineering & Design provided Traffic Engineering and Professional Planning expertise for Russo Development on this transformational project. In addition to the new mixed-use development right on this NJ Transit/Amtrak hub, there will be traffic improvements including new and updated traffic signals, changes that will provide for a more efficient bus circulation and parking layout, and station improvements to one of the most undervalued transit hubs. This project represents one of those ideal private-public partnerships between a developer, Township, and State Agency.
