Reflecting on the Paris 2024 Olympic Games: A Vision for the Future of Urban Living With the Paris 2024 Olympic Games now behind us, it's a moment to reflect on more than just the unforgettable athletic performances. The Games also offered a glimpse into the future of urban development, particularly through the Olympic Village designed by Dream Architecture. As I watched the closing ceremony, I couldn’t help but think about the legacy these Games will leave behind—especially in the Saint-Denis district, where the Olympic Village will soon transform into a thriving, sustainable neighborhood. This project isn’t just about housing athletes; it’s about crafting a space that will continue to serve the community for years to come. What’s truly inspiring is how DREAM design balances function and sustainability. The buildings are energy-efficient, the rooftops are green, and public spaces are thoughtfully integrated to encourage community interaction. It’s a powerful reminder that architecture can—and should—be about more than just aesthetics; it should be about creating spaces that are adaptable and that enrich the lives of the people who use them. As we move forward, the lessons from Paris 2024 will hopefully inspire other cities. It’s exciting to think about how large events like the Olympics can leave a positive, lasting impact on urban landscapes, shaping them into places where future generations can live, work, and play. - [Dream Architecture - Paris Olympic Village Project]https://lnkd.in/e6JCB9ec - [Dezeen Article on Paris Olympic Village Office Conversion] https://lnkd.in/eQAXAsMP

Mt. Gravatt Market Village Trimester 4 Studio Project Nestled in the heart of Brisbane, the Mt. Gravatt Market Village reimagines the traditional farmers market as a dynamic hub for community interaction and cultural exchange. Designed to act as a social condenser, the market fosters meaningful connections between urban and rural communities while celebrating the importance of fresh, locally sourced produce. The proposal embraces a modular design strategy, ensuring flexibility and adaptability to meet the demands of Brisbane’s growing population. This approach allows the market to expand organically, accommodating an increasing number of vendors and visitors over time. Its pitched roof, inspired by the surrounding suburban context, seamlessly integrates the market into the neighborhood’s architectural fabric, striking a balance between functionality and aesthetic sensitivity. Beyond providing a platform for local farmers and artisans, the project enriches the community with multi-functional spaces, including studios, workshops, and classrooms. These spaces cater to a variety of activities, from creative endeavors to educational programs, fostering a vibrant environment for learning and collaboration. To create a well-rounded experience, the design incorporates ample gathering areas, recreational facilities, and picturesque picnic spots. These features transform the market into more than just a place for commerce—it becomes a destination for family outings, social events, and leisure activities, offering something for everyone and solidifying its role as a cornerstone of community life. #3d #lumion #architecture #design

The second of our 2 nominees for the 2024 @aiaeb Design Awards is not a single project but a design system for missing middle housing. We were able to effectively quintuple density by creating townhomes that effectively consisted of 5 studio apartments each (getting a sink in the bedroom is a trick!). We were also able to reduce parking /6 with this method (+bike parking). From the submission: “A systematic approach to tackling the housing crisis through a deployable, cost-effective design was Implemented across multiple sites. These included ArtHouse Six and ArtHouse Magnolia in Oakland. The system has proven its potential to reduce housing costs by increasing production, offering an innovative solution that can be replicated across other sites to meet the growing demand for affordable housing. Both sites deliver a mix of suites featuring private kitchenettes, storage, and natural light, designed to support both comfort and affordability. The projects prioritize community with shared spaces that foster connection among residents, promoting a sense of belonging.” Winners to be announced next week!

🏠 Are your open house visitors struggling to visualize the space without furniture? 🛋️ Do they wonder if their belongings will fit? ☀️ Or perhaps they worry there’s not enough natural light? We understand the struggle. That's why we're thrilled to unveil our latest pilot project with RR Bolig, where we went above and beyond to provide an answer to these questions. In just 4 days, we transformed the soon-to-be-vacated loft apartment in Frederikssund into a personalized virtual tour, available for anyone interested in the property. ✨ Over 100 potential tenants from all across Denmark had the chance to explore the apartment and truly envision what life would be like if they made it their home. Without ever stepping foot in the apartment, users could: 🔎 See the space furnished and empty 📏 Take measurements ☀️ See how the daylight affects the space in all seasons and hours 🛋️ Furnish the space with real-life furniture from local brands ✉️ Receive a shopping list of their chosen furniture via email 🏠 View the floorplan and property video 👀 Visit the place as much as they want and for as long as they need The outcome? The apartment was rented in no time to a tenant, who now has the chance to return to the showroom and meticulously plan every aspect of their upcoming move-in. 📦 🔑 📐 Ready to take your listings to the next level? 🌍 As Global Eye Turns to Paris, Milan’s Timber Village Takes Shape! 🥇 While the world focuses on Paris for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, construction crews in Milan are hard at work on the Athletes Village for the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Games. This "self-sustaining neighbourhood," designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), is set to open in July 2025 and will feature solar panels, roof gardens, and mass timber systems. 🔍 Why This Matters: 1️⃣ Sustainable Design: The Athletes Village will be the first to meet NZEB (Nearly Zero Energy Building) requirements and be constructed with minimal environmental impact. Timber-rich structures will feature cross-laminated timber panels, floors, and glulam beams. 2️⃣ Legacy Planning: Post-Games, the village will transform into a vibrant, autonomous neighbourhood focused on social equity, environmental commitment, wellness, and inclusivity. It will provide students with affordable housing and adhere to sustainable urban development principles. 3️⃣ Historical Integration: SOM's design includes retrofitting two historic structures and constructing six new timber buildings, blending contemporary materials with historic Milanese architecture. 🗣️ Highlighted by SOM partner Colin Koop, the village aims to enhance Milan’s vibrant streetscape, creating a porous urban block with various public spaces and communal anchors. 🔗 Learn more about Milan’s innovative Athletes Village and the sustainable future of Olympic infrastructure: https://lnkd.in/grTVeDQj 💬 #questionforgroup: How can sustainable and legacy-focused design principles seen in the Milan Athletes Village be applied to other large-scale urban developments? 🇫🇷 Like a Dream, Paris 2024 Olympics Is Embracing Mass Timber in a Big Way! 🥇 Dream’s new mass timber high-rise is one of nineteen new buildings rising high at the new €2B Athlete's Village, showcasing the potential of sustainable construction as Paris prepares to host the Olympics. 🔍 Why This Matters: 1️⃣ Sustainable Construction: Over 45% of the Athlete's Village uses #masstimber, underscoring a commitment to low-carbon building practices. The use of mass timber aligns with global trends toward more environmentally friendly construction. 2️⃣ Efficiency and Aesthetics: The combination of spruce glulam frames and Douglas fir exteriors supports sustainability and pays homage to the site's industrial past with its terracotta tile cladding. This architectural choice blends historical respect with modern design efficiency. 3️⃣ Future-Proofing: Post-Games, the Village will transform into a vibrant neighbourhood, demonstrating the adaptability and long-term value of investing in sustainable construction. 🏆 Positioned prominently within the Athlete’s Village, the new tower will first serve as office and media space during the Olympics, showcasing innovative mixed-use potential. After the games, it transitions into commercial use, embodying the principles of sustainable urban development. 🔗 Learn more about how Paris is setting a new standard for Olympic Villages and the role of mass timber in sustainable architecture: https://lnkd.in/d9KPxYUg 🗣️ #questionforgroup: With mass timber gaining traction globally, what other international events could benefit from adopting this sustainable building approach? 2 REASONS TO FINISH YOUR ATTIC 1) Increased Living Space: One of the most obvious benefits is the additional living space it creates. This could be used for a variety of purposes, such as extra bedrooms, a home office, a playroom for children, a home gym, or even a loft space for relaxing. It effectively increases the usable area of your home without the need to expand the house's footprint. 2) Boosted Property Value: Adding square footage to your house by finishing the attic can significantly increase the property's value. More living space often translates to a higher market value, making it a potentially profitable investment if you decide to sell your home in the future. MAG Construction would love to help you finish your attic space and add usable square footage to your home.
