This young lady recently died from cervical cancer. Tragic incidents like this underscore the urgent need for improved patient-provider communication in healthcare. As healthcare providers, it's our responsibility to prioritize active listening, acknowledge patient concerns, and work collaboratively to address their needs. We must create environments where patients feel empowered to advocate for themselves, seek second opinions, and engage in open dialogue about sensitive topics like abnormally heavy periods, contraception, and reproductive health. Let's commit to fostering trusting relationships with our patients, valuing their input, and ensuring that their voices are heard and respected. Moreover, it's crucial for healthcare providers to take the time to understand their patients' beliefs, desires, and unique circumstances. This woman declined medical treatment in lieu of more holistic options. I'm not sure if she verbalized this to her provider, but I can't help but think she needed more education to understand the severity of her situation. She could've taken the holistic route in addition to modern medicine. By incorporating patient preferences into treatment plans and providing comprehensive education about their options, we can empower individuals to make informed decisions about their health. Together, let's prioritize patient-centered care and strive to prevent similar tragedies through proactive communication and collaboration. #PatientEmpowerment #HealthcareCommunication #CervicalCancerAwareness"

Multidisciplinary cystic fibrosis (CF) clinicians perceive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) for males with cystic fibrosis (MwCF) as important, yet they report suboptimal SRH discussions. The majority believe the CF team should have the primary role in SRH discussion and provision for MwCF. Pediatric clinicians report significantly less comfort and skill in discussing and managing male SRH. Identified barriers and facilitators should be used to improve SRH care for MwCF. https://lnkd.in/eHrddaDP

Wandering spleen refers to a normal spleen that is found outside the left upper quadrant of the abdomen. Wandering spleen is characterized by lack of ligamentous attachments to the diaphragm, colon, and retroperitoneum. It usually is manifested between the ages of 20 and 40 years. 70% to 80% of reported cases are in women in the reproductive age. One third of cases are found in children, most (70%) older than 10 years. The clinical presentation of wandering spleen is variable. Affected patients may be asymptomatic and the condition may be detected incidentally. Diagnosis may be made incidentally as a mass on physical examination or imaging. *Ultrasound of ectopic spleen in a 7-year-old patient. #Ultrasound #POCUS #Spleen #Wandering_spleen

Reproductive health can be tricky! Many of these symptoms associated with ovarian cancer can be symptoms that individuals with uncomplicated medical histories experience. As pelvic health specialists, we are specifically trained to ask every patient about their bladder habits, bowel routine and sexual function. Through a process known as differential diagnosis, it is part of our job to help you sift through what you’re feeling and experiencing to determine whether or not you need further medical work-up. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, talk to your pelvic floor therapist, or if you aren’t already working with one, schedule an appointment to come see us! You don’t have to navigate the complexities of reproductive health alone.

It is troubling to discover that in Pennsylvania over $6 million on efforts to alter the gender appearance of children has been spent. Every medical intervention has potential side effects and risks. Children often respond differently to medications than adults, and have a longer lifespan in front of them to suffer long term effects. It wasn't long ago that we discovered that something as simple as aspirin could be dangerous to children; how could we not be more cautious with daily hormones that have effects on the cardiovascular and musculoskeletal systems and significantly alter behavior? How could we not transparently discuss the risks and benefits of major surgeries? What long term problems have been created by this $6 million spend? We need a national discussion regarding how to approach the vulnerable children who are gender confused in our country, highlighting the work of the NHS's Cass Report. #Womenshealth needs are often overlooked in healthcare, but research can change that. Just before Covid-19 started, the AXA Research Fund committed €1M to a dedicated Women’s Health #AXAFellowship, to support 8 outstanding post-doctoral research projects. These projects, now over, have covered a wide range of topics, from maternal health to addressing domestic violence. Their results contribute to close the gender-based health inequality gap, and improve women's health outcomes in many ways: from reducing pregnancy related backpain, or emergency obstetric care risk, to easing access to cervical cancer detection. Throughout the next weeks, we will highlight the insights & results of the 8 scientists of the AXA Fellowship on #WomensHealth. #HealthcareEquality #MaternalHealth #BeingAWomanShoudntbeARisk Julia d'Astorg Ulrike Decoene Virginie Berçot

I will be in Boston next week (13-14 Feb) to attend the Reproductive Health Innovation Summit. I’m looking forward to connecting with industry leaders committed to driving advances in women’s health. Our imaging agent, maraciclatide, is currently being assessed in a Phase II clinical trial as a non-invasive diagnostic tool in endometriosis. There is an urgent unmet need for non-invasive marker to identify or rule out endometriosis as it is such a common disease effecting more than 190 million women worldwide and is also known to effect around 50% of women with fertility issues. #womenshealth #endometriosis #molecularimaging #medicalimaging #reproductivehealth #nuclearmedicine
