DTU Biotech Lifelong Learning’s Post

How do we protect our natural environment while ensuring our needs as a society are met - all within an economic market constraint? “As a behavioral economist I strive to understand what influences people’s decision-making process towards sustainable choices,”  says Catharina Wolff von Bülow, Socio-Economic and Behavioral Assessment Lead at DTU Biosustain “The potential positive environmental impact of bio-sustainable products can only be unleashed if people decide to consume the new product. Hence, by looking at data through the lens of behavioral economics I zoom into behavioral barriers and drivers that might influence choices and test ways to overcome these”, Catharina explains At the DTU Biotech Lifelong Learning course “Sustainability Assessment of Bio-Based Products” Catharina will introduce participants to socioeconomic sustainability and show how applying smart behavioral economics tools in the context of novel bio-sustainable landmarks can potentially help make a real-world sustainability impact. “While the relationship between sustainability and behavioral economics has gained increasing attention in the past decade, it is still a relatively new area within biotechnology. I hope that a better understanding of the behavioral barriers can help drive innovation within biotechnology and ultimately support more sustainable choices.” 👉 Sustainability Assessment of Bio-Based Products, 4-6 March 2025 at DTU.
