The head of the Industry portfolio assured that construction will begin on the Kahiros Project plant on National Route N°2, near the city of Fray Bentos in the department of Rio Negro, covering a total of 8.4 hectares. 💡 🏗️ This ambitious project will supply a total of six trucks that will operate in the forestry sector, specifically in Montes del Plata and UPM. On the occasion of today's Saudi Green Initiative Day, we want to highlight innovative projects that demonstrate how sustainable practices and renewable energy are transforming the future of agriculture. Our collaboration with Mirai Solar in Saudi Arabia - a notable example of Agri-Photovoltaic (Agri-PV) - aligns with the ambitious goals of the Saudi Green Initiative to promote a more sustainable and greener future. Mirai Solar – a spin-off company of KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology) runs several pilot and research installations in Saudi Arabia, including sites at Estidamah, Al-Rasheed Greenhouses, and Red Sea Farms. 🌱⚡ All three projects* have a common objective: to create research bases to enable a more sustainable agriculture in combination with PV installations. They represent an innovative approach that aligns food production with the principles of sustainability and energy efficiency. ✅ By installing our blue'Log X-series and integrating it into the VCOM Asset Management Plattform, we can monitor the performance of PV installations and collect vital data for optimizing agricultural production. This enables projects like Mirai Solar to cover up to 90% of the energy needs of medium-sized greenhouses without compromising yield - a significant step towards energy-neutral food production, even under the challenging climate conditions of Saudi Arabia. These Agri-PV projects* highlight the immense potential of renewable energies and sustainable agricultural practices in the MENA region. Could macaúba be the key to Brazil’s renewable fuel future? The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) has invested R$257.9m ($45.2m) in Acelen’s innovative agro-industrial center in Montes Claros, Minas Gerais. This project focuses on cultivating and processing macaúba, a native Brazilian palm tree known for its high oil content. Acelen will cultivate 180,000 hectares of macaúba, including contributions from small-scale family farms, and aims to produce 20,000 barrels of renewable fuel per day, including sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The project, which includes an innovation center for research into macaúba breeding and oil extraction methods, is expected to strengthen Brazil’s position as a leader in SAF production. Luciana Costa, BNDES’s director of infrastructure, energy transition, and climate change, highlighted the project’s importance in reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable development. Gabriel Walter likes to tell me that one of the things he has learnt in his 15-year entrepreneurial journey, after leaving his cosy life as a scientist at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, is the importance of financial and business model innovation as well. And this ambitious project he has crafted together with Poh Lian Lam and Dino Bidari attests to that. It is no mean feat to convince the folks at China Machinery Engineering Corporation to support him to the tune of US$2.1 billion in this project that will be, not only the first large scale solar project in Sarawak, but the first one to combine sustainable agriculture with a solar project that promises 24-hour solar energy. The projected sustainability benefits of this Agrovoltaic project are very impressive, especially the promise to deliver fixed pricing for animal feed and chickens to the Sarawak market - for 30 years! I wonder if there is even any such integration in Peninsula Malaysia solar projects? Or elsewhere in Southeast Asia? Now the ball is in court of Sarawak Premier Datuk Abang Abdul Johari who has been championing a green transition for Sarawak's economy but facing a less than enthusiastic buy-in from the establishment. now we are talking... positive innovation this is one of the most positive posts I have seen about water... if you know how much water is used in making concrete then you will understand why this may well be a game changer... 280 litres per cubic metre of concrete... give or take depending on the mix... and what few people process is that this is technically virtual water as it is part of the manufacturing process... and some may well evaporate back into the atmosphere, but it raises questions... look around you at how much concrete we use for construction... then you will also understand why it leads the carbon footprint... and is considered one of the worst building materials for our planet... accelerators are used to manipulate the concrete properties and even reduce the water usage...

Recently, together with our project manager, Bujinlkham Bandikhuu and designer Margad-Erdene Ganbaatar, I visited Ms. Davaajargal and her three young children, who are participants in URECA's inaugural pilot study — a collaborative effort with The Asia Foundation and GerHub. Since the installation of her renewable energy system in October 2022, Ms. Davaajargal's Ger has become safer, warmer, and the indoor air quality significantly cleaner for her children. Freed from the daily early morning coal collection and the continuous need to maintain the fire, she has secured full-time employment. Our coal-to-solar initiative is poised to make a substantial impact on reducing air pollution in Ulaanbaatar, where children's lung function can suffer impairments of up to 40%. Additionally, the revenue generated from digitally measured, verified and reported carbon credits through fuel-switching offers an important source of extra income, enhancing overall livelihoods. Witnessing the tangible effects of our project has been humbling. MEKOROT Considers Investment in Seakura company We were thrilled to host executives from Mekorot Development & Enterprise, Israel's National Water Company, for an exclusive tour of our sustainable Seaweed farm. Led by Shai Ezra, CTO and Head of Engineering, David Balsar, General Manager Innovation and Ventures, and Sharon Zmora, desalination Engineer. The delegation explored our technology and its potential for large-scale environmental impact. Seakura’s technology supports sustainable aquaculture and acts as a biofilter, removing pollutants (Nitrates, heavy metals, phosphor) from desalination brine and saltwater resources. This visit marks a significant step as MEKOROT is considering a strategic investment in Seakura. 📈 Why it Matters: The global desalination and water treatment market is expected to grow from $44 billion in 2023 to $86 billion by 2032. Seakura’s innovative approach addresses critical environmental challenges.
