It’s World Water Day and we’ve got a question for you. When was the last time you stopped to think about the significance of the water that’s flowing through your tap when you grab a drink? If it’s been a while, then this is the perfect time to take a minute to reflect on the importance of accessible clean water. It’s estimated that over 2 billion people (that’s 1 in every 4 people on earth) do not have access to clean water for drinking, bathing or cooking. Even fewer people have access to basic sanitation, with nearly 50% of human beings lacking this simple privilege. We feel it’s also the perfect time to shine a light on the work of one of the Cotopaxi Foundation’s incredible nonprofit partners, Water1st International. Water1st is committed to ending the “walk for water” for rural communities around the world by ensuring that people have piped water directly to their homes. To learn more about how this simple intervention can improve things like gender equity, graduation rates and national GDP check out their work and support if you can! https://lnkd.in/g8PEYVQc

As a country, we are big on tree planting, and that's all great. Where we can improve, is aftercare for planted saplings. Luckily, children are happy to help. We estimate that if trees are just planted and no aftercare is provided, the failure rate is anywhere between 30-70% depending on where and when the trees are planted. These nature's babies need tender loving care to thrive. Unfortunately, when speaking about the need for more trees, we often talk about "planting" trees, while we should be talking about "growing" trees. We need to be more deliberate, and it starts with commending the efforts of governments, organizations and communities planting more trees, but also asking how many trees will be standing after 1, 2, 3,5 years. At involvethechildren.org, we recognize the important role that children can play in helping care for young trees in their homesteads, schools and social areas. All children should be involved and, thankfully, children are very excited to participate. Our organization prioritizes working with children from underserved rural communities as they are disporportionately affected by climate change.

We’re incredibly grateful to SOIL for providing us with a 0% interest Slow Money Institute loan, enabling us to take our regenerative land management efforts to the next level. Special thanks also to Jolie Brawner from The Alliance Center for her continued support and partnership. With this loan, we’ve acquired a row mulcher, a game-changing piece of equipment designed for large-scale orchard and vineyard management. This tool allows us to deliver and distribute high volumes of biomass like compost and wood chips, critical for enhancing our drylands agroforestry practices. Community-based finance models like Slow Money Boulder are essential in supporting local organizations like ours, making it possible to scale landscape restoration efforts across public and private lands. By leveraging this tool, we can deepen our impact, restoring ecosystems and fostering resilience for the long haul. If you’re not familiar with the Slow Money movement, I strongly encourage you to learn more at SlowMoney.org. #RegenerativeAgriculture #CommunityFinance #Agroforestry #Sustainability #LandRestoration #SlowMoney

Waterroots is a nonprofit project centered on grassroots water projects. Approaching issues from Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) to water insecurity, Waterroots seeks to inspire local action against global water challenges. To combat pressing water challenges, Waterroots uses this tri-pronged approach: - Innovative peer applications (the involvement of multicultural youth and global changemakers) - Grassroots Education projects (localized information sharing) - Global Partnerships (working with diverse populations for impact) Through local organizations and childhood education, our mission is to mitigate the challenges of water insecurity from a bottom-up perspective. With inspiration and engagement in specific communities, we have developed creative volunteer-based approaches to water safety education. This project has morphed from a chemical filtration project to a climate literacy campaign, public education reform movement, and global water exposure project. As Waterroots continues to pursue the SDGs, my team encourages "Safe, Smart, and Simple" solutions for global unity. Clean water is a human right.

🚰 Water: A Right, Not a Privilege! 🌍 At Kansarmen SL Foundation, we’ve completed 310+ WASH projects 🏫💧, transforming the lives of countless children in rural schools. These children face daily struggles with unsafe water 🦠, which not only impacts their health 🏥, but also their education 📚 and future opportunities. Many of them have grown up thinking clean water is a luxury – but it’s their right! 💪 🚸 Imagine a child having to drink polluted water just to get through the day 💧, risking illnesses and missing school days 🎒. That’s the reality for many children we serve. But at Kansarmen, we’re breaking that cycle! 🔄 We provide safe water, improved sanitation facilities, and teach vital hygiene practices 🧼, ensuring healthier futures. 🌱 With every project, we don’t just install systems; we empower local youth and women 👩👧👦 to sustain these changes, ensuring long-term community ownership and resilience. 💡 While we’ve reached 240+ communities, we still have 200+ requests for help 📄, with many schools waiting years for funding to receive clean water and proper sanitation. ⏳ We’re committed to reducing inequality 🔄, promoting gender inclusivity 🚻, and supporting quality education ✏️. Safe water is not just a health need – it’s the foundation of a brighter, more equal future. 🌟 Together, we’re changing lives, one drop at a time. 💧🤝 Join us in ensuring every child gets the safe water they deserve! 💙
