Rarely have I had more fun than in the last 10 weeks with this year's New Jersey State Policy Lab Summer Internship 2024 cohort. What a joy it has been to work with every single person involved in this program. These young scholars knocked it out of the park with their final presentations and I can't wait for you all to see their work on the New Jersey State Policy Lab website! Stay tuned for access to their full presentations on (in alphabetical order by last name): Ways to improve maternal health outcomes for Black birthing people, Ways to integrate more moderate exercise in K-12 schools, How to foster social connections between college students and adults 65 and older, How states might address the role of AI in K-12 classrooms, How U.S. immigration policy has and has not changed over the past handful of presidential administrations, The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on education for youth with learning disabilities in New Jersey, How New Jersey might approach increasing Medicaid enrollment for Hispanic adults, and Why Black adults in two Essex County, NJ municipalities have differences in chronic health conditions.
That's a wrap! 🎉 Yesterday, our interns presented their final #policy research projects, marking the end to a truly rewarding summer. We are so proud of the work Bernice Amankwah, Luc Chapeau, Justin Deonarine, Beauty Okunbor, Gretel R., Jordyn Roy, Joana Tineo, and Tanaya Watson have accomplished these last ten weeks, and we can't wait to see what else is in store for you all as you continue on in your respective careers in and around public policy. Special thanks to our teaching assistants, Sophia Fox-Dichter and Ciera Gaither, as well as Executive Director Elizabeth Cooner, Ed.D. for leading our third annual summer #internship. I have walked the same path as many law students, and understand how the right choices can redefine your career. My experience at UBC, Yale, and Cambridge, paired with teaching at Jindal Global Law School, has shown me how critical aspects like faculty mentorship, networking, internships, publications, and post-study work options can be. It’s the small, well-thought-out decisions that can open doors to incredible opportunities, and I am here to guide you in making those choices count.

After months of contemplation, I finally took a leap of faith in November 2023 and started fresh. The only thing I regret? Not starting sooner! Here are a few lessons I’ve learned along the way on my journey to working in the field of Law: (1) Start sooner: Delaying the start of your internship might feel comfortable, but trust me, the earlier you dive in, the better. Working with lawyers will acclimatize you to the atmosphere, legal terminologies, documents, and the ethos. This experience is invaluable! (2) Hit the Courts and Tribunals: A fantastic piece of advice from Team The Law Engineering before starting my internship - make it a priority to visit courts and tribunals. As an intern or even otherwise. The real-world observation and the courtroom atmosphere are important to understanding the practical aspects. (3) Embrace every challenge: Every task, no matter how small, contributes to your growth. Volunteer to take on tasks, and learn from every experience. (4) Reflect and adapt: Take a step back to reflect on what you've learned. (5) Develop interest in research: There is no substitute for developing the ability to research. PS - So many months of visiting the Bombay High Court, and here's my first photo in front of this board! #CourtVisits #InternshipExperience #LegalJourney #BombayHighCourt #LegalFraternity #JusticeForAll

Today we say goodbye to our Summer Intern, Russell Chiang. Russell is heading off to his third year at University of Washington School of Law, and it has been so much fun to get to know him even better than we did last year. We asked Russell to tell us three things he’ll take with him from his time at Lasher: “My second summer at Lasher has been full of so many great experiences! Three things I took away from my time at Lasher: first is the reinforced importance of communication, for the attorneys and staff you work with but also for relaying to clients the information needed to help get them on the same page when assessing solutions. Second, is how valuable relationships are – and again – both in the office and out. Third and finally, there aren’t too many things greater than learning and practicing with enthusiastic mentors, teachers, and peers.” Russell, we are so glad you enjoyed your time with us, and we can’t wait to see your successes of the next year! #LasherLaw #LasherInterns #LeadWA #SummerinSeattle #UWLaw

My personal experience in Jus Corpus, I'm delighted to share that I have received a internship certificate from Jus Corpus. This credential was truly acquired the hard way. Despite the several rejections I received, I remained optimistic. Rather, I rolled up my sleeves and finished it. I edited and corrected my writing until it was flawless, and I was able to publish one article. Thus, when it comes to the advantages, they went beyond publications. 1. Jus Corpus-led sessions offer instruction on #writing fundamentals. Everything from learning how to use Grammarly to creating interesting blogs with the right citations was covered. 2. Reviewing the process: The Jus Corpus team didn't hesitate to review our articles when we submitted them. They offered insightful yet critical criticism. This encouraged me to enhance and polish the work even further. Yes, it was a difficult game. But growth requires constructive criticism. Thanks to Ayush Pandey and Sakshi Batham for creating such an internship program that offers training opportunities and challenges interns to push their boundaries. #internship #completed #law #legalresearch #JusCorpus #intern #legalfield #legalintern #certificate

Why too much reading of law does not help in real practice? - Here is one answer. “Practical Knowledge comes with action only. When knowledge is combined with action, it lasts for long. Those who think otherwise are weak and their words are futile” - Krishna Niti- Page 23 (By Nityanand Misra) #lawyers #lawstudents #interns
