Quantum drives A quantum drive is a type of engine that generates a Chan-Eisen field, enabling spacecraft to travel at approximately 20% of the speed of light. It is based on the manipulation of the quantum medium, which allows ships to cross the vast distances of open space in a reasonable time. The IVO Quantum Drive is a proposed system that relies on the theory of Quantized Inertia (QI), a controversial idea that many physicists have challenged. If validated, such a system would provide multiple advantages over conventional propellants, the most notable of which is extreme efficiency. The Quantum Drive uses electricity and a patent-pending configuration to move spacecraft, and it has been tested as much as it can on Earth's surface. When spacecraft move through low-earth orbit, they are moving through a plasma. Because of the difference in mass of electrons and ions, there tends to be a buildup of ions in front of the moving craft and a "wake" behind it. This creates a difference in potential across the spacecraft that may need to be considered during spacecraft design phases. My colleague Mat Kolding simulated the spacecraft below making a plasma wake in its path. It demonstrates the plasma modeling capabilities of Ansys Charge Plus. This tool solves electromagnetic and fluid equations in a way that is easy-to-use and accurate. Mat created a step-by-step guide for this example if anyone is interested!

This video illustrates one of the worst case scenario that can occur during static firing test, i.e. the risk of rocket motor self propulsion. During the Static Firing Test of a Tianlong-3 first stage by China's Space Pioneer, the first stage self propelled, lifting off the test pad, falling back on surrounding area, generating a massive explosion.
