Director of Trade Advocacy | Engaging Storyteller. Luxury Intrapreneur. Transformational Leader. | Hospitality Champion & Speaker
Last Monday, several folks from MH had the incredible opportunity to attend The Welcome Conference 2024. Each of us left transformed! To note, for a hospitality centric conference, both the audience & speakers were from a wide range of trades and geographic origins (across the US and internationally!). The red threads of Welcome 2024? The importance of teams, interpersonal relationships, and how to maintain them. Every speaker touched on this theme despite their varying topics. My BIGGEST lightbulb moment was from Jade Simmons. The top 2 takeaways: 1. Your Purpose is NOT the thing you do. It’s the thing that happens in others when you do what you do. 2. Purpose causes atmospheric shifts Looking forward to Welcome 2025!

We invite you to take part in our event "Friday Breakfast 20/9". Join us for Friday Breakfast at Karlstad Innovation Park, where we meet to share knowledge and inspiration as well as just have a good time! This event is the perfect opportunity to network with entrepreneurs, innovators, and like-minded professionals in Värmland. Whether you're looking to share ideas, spark new collaborations, or simply enjoy great company, our Friday Breakfast is the place to be. Lets not forget either that every Friday Breakfast offers a chosen speaker to inspire and share knowledge about different organisations. At this event our chosen organisation is Paper Province. They will give us a presentation of the future of building sustainable high-rise buildings with wood. They will highlight the challenges and innovations in the construction industry and reflect on how wood as a building material can play a decisive role in the green transition. Don't miss out—let's start the weekend with fresh conversations and fresh connections! Date and time: Friday 20/9 08.30-10.00 Location: Karlstad Innovation Park, level 3, Coffice. Price: Participation is free. (Optional fee for sandwich buffé is 55sek.) Breakfast: We offer coffee and tea for free in Coffice at level 3 where the event takes place. There will be a smaller sandwich buffé available for you to purchase (55sek) in the restaurant Nova. It is located at the ground floor to the right after coming trough the main entrance. You can then bring your breakfast to Coffice at level 3. The change from pre made and free sandwiches to a paid sandwich buffé is due to high amount of sandwiches waisted during the spring. We hope that this solution will be well received now that those who wishes to eat breakfast can do so and at the same time, the amount of waste can be minimized. This fall we have planned to change the concept i a few ways and we hope that you will se it as a positive development. One of these changes will for example be to use english as the primary language for the presentations and communication around the events to make them more inclusive. We want to make these events more accessible for our international community members and we hope to do this by using english as the primary language for the events. We want to emphasize that for most of us english is not our first language. This means that we help each other and keep a forgiving attitude to each others comfortability to communicate in english. This can also be a possibility to practice the english language for all of us that can use refresh now and then. Another example of development is that the events will be fewer but longer and our intention is to bring more quality and value for you as a participant. We hope to to see you at our Friday Breakfast 20/9! Book your spot at https://lnkd.in/dHHug8_v

VP Editorial Director, Food, Retail, & Hospitality I QSR and FSR magazines I PMQ I CStore Decisions I Club + Resort
Some Sunday thoughts on this past week’s conferences to hopefully distract you from this photo, which I promised I would post. Can’t go back on my word now. No. 1—and this came up a bit during Thursday morning’s keynote with Inspire’s Scott Murphy—we shouldn’t lose sight of the fact just a few years ago people couldn’t even go into restaurants, let alone take over a massive hotel in Atlanta. Despite how difficult it was during the depths, has been since, continues to be (and always will be in this industry), we are back. Although everybody in that room competes on some sense, there’s space to collectively propel the sector forward. That mindset is how we’ll all win. No. 2: The first time I shared the vision of QSR and FSR’s Women in Restaurant Leadership platform with somebody outside our organization their response was, “why?” I thought I had relatively clear sight of the answer then, but I’m 1,000 percent crystal now. The number of times I saw members of that movement, from 2024 WiRL conference attendees to board members to prospective ones, together last week, whether chatting at lunch, going out for dinner, or simply grouping up to navigate the maze of conference life, was incalculable. I never really knew where WiRL would go, or still might, only that people asked for it and we created it. Every roadblock, complication, and challenge since has been worth it. I’d do it again every day. No. 3: Our events are always going to be content forward. That’s just who we are and the model of our approach. It’s why you saw panels with five, six, seven people on them at times. I can’t thank our moderators enough for helping us wrangle all that insight this year. What I’ve come to realize as well is the strength of events like these is taking that anchor point of content and surrounding it with “space.” The parties and hallway chats are the afterglow of months of planning and stress. That, too, is something I’d do all over again for the result. It makes me feel small to play some tiny role in allowing these industry friendships and relationships to flourish. This growing universe of QSR Evolution and NextGen is something that humbles me a lot. Lastly: These points are true of my editorial staff as well. All of us (myself included) had zero conference experience before last year. They dove into the chaos alongside me. We’re all getting reps and learning with every panel and conversation we have. Am I the most traditional moderator out there? Probably not. Am I myself? Yes. And I encourage that authenticity among my staff. We’re always going to give you our true selves, that I can promise—every bit of what we’re capable of with the heart and effort that comes with caring deeply about our audience and mission. We all love this industry and the people in it. I try to avoid cliché LinkedIn terms, but I am damn proud of all of them. More to come as we get our videos, audio, photos, and more in over the days to come. So stay tuned. Thank you, all, truly.

Former International Speaker Bureau Owner & Agent. Creator of The Bookability Formula©. Founder of Speaking Business Academy. Teaching speakers how to apply Bureau strategies to grow their speaking businesses.
The only award worth having is a Nobel Prize or an honour from the King. This was my knee-jerk response when I was asked about the value of awards for speakers, but I have done a total 180 on this view in recent years. In fact so much so that I became Ambassador for The Speaker Awards. And that's not because Elliot Kay has promised me Ferrero Rocher, but for the great work he, Simone Vincenzi and Lovelda Vincenzi are doing. Firstly I hesitated in getting involved, I waited a year to see how the Awards would unfold. In the second year I was a judge and I experienced how professionally organised and well structured the Awards are. So this year I volunteered to be Ambassador and I see these awards going from strength to strength. But why have I done a 180 and why these awards? It's because of the intention behind them. The intention is to elevate speakers, to shine a light on the work they do, to celebrate the skills and hard work of experts who speak. It's not a money making exercise. I'm also impressed by the network of people involved who are all willing to give their time and experience for free to support this initiative. So this is why I am a supporter but why as a speaker should you care or even enter? Here are 5 reasons why it is worth participating: 1. Elevate Your Brand: Winning or even being nominated for a Speaker Award is the speaking industry is a mark of quality, excellence, and distinction that sets you apart in a crowded market. 2. Boost Your Credibility: Awards serve as a third-party endorsement of your expertise and speaking expertise. 3. Expand Your Network: Participating in awards puts you in the room (virtual or physical) with other top-tier professionals. It's a chance to connect, collaborate, and create new opportunities with peers, bookers, and industry influencers who can open doors you didn't even know existed. 4. Enhance Your Marketing: Winning an award or even being shortlisted is a powerful marketing tool. It's a story that can enhance your speaker profile, feature in your press releases, and shine on your social media platforms, making your speaker brand more attractive to conference organisers and event planners. 5. Personal Growth: The process of applying for an award is in itself a valuable exercise. It encourages self-reflection, helps you fine-tune your message, and sharpens your focus on what makes you unique as a speaker. Think of it as a personal workshop where the end product is a clearer, more compelling speaker brand Entries close on 21st April so what are you waiting for? Here's the link:

Enabling business & human transformation through the application of regenerative strategy, enabling education & technology | Eden Project Trustee
2 days on the beach at a business 'Conference- fresh air, fresh ideas, fresh approaches. This is the way to do it. Thankyou GOODFEST CIC, Matt Hocking, team and thankyou Mother Nature. Thankyou for articulating the experience so well Patrick Andrews. For me, the sand, sea, rain, wind and all the other nature elements hugely helped keep US fresh and focused on the reasons we are purpose- driven founders, professionals and creatives. Patricks use of the the word vitality really resonates with me. After GoodFest, I feel re vitalised and a sense that we collectively revitalised each other, whether a speaker, a natural element or an attendee, we worked as a eco system sustaining each other. With vitality in mind, I have set myself a task to think about the following: 💚 How can we continue to be with the essence of vitality when we think about our businesses and how we work? 💚 How do we navigate our impact on purpose, on profit and the planet? 💚 What does this mean for the core pillars of finance, leadership and governance? 💚 How do we ensure a feeling of aliveness. In the physical sense, feeling healthy and capable and energetic. Psychologically, a sense that our actions have meaning and purpose. Any thoughts/ help with thinking about this ☝ welcome 💚💚 Goodfest nurtures the space for new friendships to form and new partnerships to evolve, giving attendees sustenance for the mind, body and soul. And above all hope. Thankyou to everyone at Goodfest, including the awesome Clover Hogan Vineeta Greenwood Matt Hocking Fiona Ellis Rosie Riley Nick Whitnell Ben Templeton Stephanie Paterson Hugo Tagholm Tom Greenwood And a big thankyou to Jamie Pike for being my co-facilitator for the The Bio-Leadership Project workshop at Goodfest- 'what are you going to do before you die?'Our workshop navigated how we can go faster alone but further together , in the context of our individual mortality. #goodfest24 #cornwall #vitaminsea #sustainability #purpose #climate #business #bcorp #leadership #governance #regenerativebusiness
So Goodfest is over for another year. What to say about this super-friendly, lovingly-organised, stunningly-located, inspiring and lively event? My friends Vineeta Greenwood and Nick Whitnell have covered a lot in their posts. I wanted to add a couple of thoughts of my own. Firstly I want to honour the persistence and basic good-heartedness of the organisers. Organising and hosting such events can often be unrewarding and surprisingly time-consuming yet they can be incredibly valuable and meaningful for the participants. So well done to Matt Hocking and the team. I want to spotlight the place. The gathering just wouldn't be the same without the wild and rugged Cornish coast, gusty wind and rain and the crashing seas. A constant reminder of the basic beauty, resilience and sheer awesomeness of all life - which of course includes business at its best. Something I particularly cherished about the festival was that it embodied a certain “Cornishness”. To me this is a mixture of: - an independence of spirit, aided by the remoteness from the powerful energy of London, by having its toes dipped in the Atlantic Ocean and by its ancient Celtic heritage. - a raw vitality, exemplified in Mark Shayler’s Chi Gong session the first morning, in the energy and commitment of Clover Hogan and Hugo Tagholm, and in the bracing Cornish wind and rough waves. - deep connection: to a vision of business as a force for good, to strongly-held values and to place; and - a willingness to help out, to serve others, to share friendship, food and laughter with guests from across the UK and beyond. I will take away memories of rich conversations, blasts of Cornish air and a tingling in my body from a dip in the sea. And I am inspired to contribute to the more beautiful world we all dream of. Greetings to the friends, old and new, I spent time with there including Erica Neve FRSA Sarah King Stephanie Paterson Jamie Pike Martin Palethorpe and Tom Greenwood

What a great awards gala we had last night at the Canadian Research Insights Council (CRIC)’s H*Factor conference! In addition to the traditional awards and honours, I stole time on stage to give out my own informal yet highly esteemed awards. Here they are in order from most tasty to most awkward: - Best giveaway: Canadian Viewpoint with their on-site, randomized ice cream bar taste test (yum!) - Best acronym: Paul Acerbi with VCCRDMSGSD - Don’t ask me what it stands for! - Best word: Jeff Hecker, MBA, CAIP with the word fleshy. We managed to say that word on stage numerous times afterwards, all in the most strange ways :) My heartiest congratulations to each of you! Let’s go and have another awesome day of insights!

A Friday thought: panel discussions. Over the years, I've observed and participated in numerous panel discussions, and it's become evident that they can often lack enthusiasm, leaving audiences disengaged. Recently, I was approached by GBB Venture to moderate a panel at the upcoming 2nd Hospitality Innovation Summit KSA & UAE prompting me to address this issue. As industry professionals, we possess the power to break away from the traditional mould and infuse vitality into these sessions, providing attendees with a truly invigorating experience. It's easy to forget that disagreement is not only acceptable but also essential for enriching dialogue. Let's shed our fear of candid conversations. Audiences crave authenticity, not rehearsed exchanges. It's time to breathe new life into panel discussions, fostering interactive dialogues that are casual, enjoyable, yet intellectually stimulating, with a primary focus on engaging the audience. I'm not disputing that guided topics can facilitate smooth conversation flow; however, let's strive to move away from the conventional panel setup characterised by predictable questions. Anyway, join me and an esteemed panel of both local and global industry leaders on March 7th for an unscripted discussion on Brand War along the 3 is - International v/s Home Brands. See you there. 😎

🌍 13 Nations, 1 Festival, and a Crash Course in German Culture! 🍺🥨 What happens when a team representing 13 different nationalities takes a trip to a traditional German event like the Pichmännel Festival in Dresden? Let’s just say... it’s the ultimate "Integration Program"! 😂 This past weekend, our diverse team united under one common goal: to survive a day of wursts, beer, and centuries-old German traditions. For those unfamiliar, the Pichmännel Festival dates back to the 1800s and celebrates the Saxon region's unique culture, history, and love for all things grilled. Imagine Oktoberfest with even more local flair! Now, as someone whose idea of "German" began with Schnitzel and ended with Rammstein, this experience was a deep dive into the heart of the culture. We embraced the full Germanization experience—from attempting to pronounce the names of local dishes (with mixed success 😅) to discovering that Lederhosen or Dirndl are surprisingly comfortable. 😎 And let’s not forget about the team-building aspect of this cultural integration: there’s nothing quite like bonding over a stein of beer and a shared inability to properly execute traditional folk dances. (No, really—there’s video evidence to prove it, but for everyone's sake, I’ll keep that off LinkedIn! 🎥❌) But here’s the real lesson we took away from the day: It doesn’t matter where you’re from, where you live now, or how unfamiliar the traditions may seem at first. When you approach the world with an open mind—and a sense of humor—it becomes an adventure. The more we embrace our differences, the more fun we have together. 🌏✨ So, whether you’re mastering KPI dashboards or attempting to master Schuhplattler dances, just remember: ❗ Life is a lot more fun when you’re open to new cultures, people, and opportunities. 🙌 Cheers to the team for proving once again that, no matter where you’re from, we can all come together and make some unforgettable memories! 🍻🥨 #EnlocWorld #TeamSpirit #WorkLifeBalance #WhyNot
