Here are three study tips that are game changers when you’re study for the NCLEX exam: Study tip 1 - Priority questions look at ABC’s = airway, breathing, & circulation. Study tip 2 - psychosocial questions focus on patient safety, nurse & staff safety & safety of other patients. Also consider Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Astonished to read this piece by Joe Pike and Charlotte Rowles this morning. As someone who spends their working life on patient safety including human factors this is clearly not an isolated incident, so why didn't everyone involved scream "stop"! So many questions - was it lack of equipment? Lack of training? Lack of compassion? Time pressures? Teamwork breakdown and lack of communication? Cultural failure and the fear of speaking out? Ensure that the resident receives adequate supervision and assistive devices to prevent accidents. (42 CFR §483.25) I just reviewed a nursing home case where the resident fell 16 times. Yup, you read that correctly. 16. Horrible, right? Gross negligence. How do I establish the level of assistance she needed? MDS section G will detail exactly what level of assistance the resident needs for ADLs (ambulation, grooming, bed mobility, etc.) Then, I check PT notes (if available). These will likely support information from the MDS. I also check nursing notes and ADL monthly task documentation to determine what level of assistance the resident was routinely receiving. All of these support my liability theory and ability to prove that the resident wasn't being supervised/supported appropriately. #nursinghomenegligence #trialattorney #legalnurseconsulting
