We have welcomed new Special Constables to the force. 👮♀️ 👮♂️ “Most importantly, I want my son growing up in a safe community. By volunteering, I will contribute to making people feel safe in streets. I want to protect those who need it most." Those are the words from Special Constable Simona Ferreria, one of the 11 new recruits at the weekend's attestation ceremony. We're extremely proud of our *nationally recognised* Wealden Cadets. The group of under-18 volunteers (not pictured!) were runners-up at the NPCC VAWG and Op Soteria National Recognition Event. They have been educating hundreds of young people about violence against women and girls. Fostering healthy attitudes and culture among young people - especially boys - is so important to protecting women and girls. PCs Ian Codling and Zak Hayns were on hand to pick up their certificate, pictured here with ACCs Dee Perkins and Samantha Miller. We're incredibly proud of Debbie Watts, who last night became a Women in Security Awards winner! Debbie is one of our Brighton Night Safety Marshals, who was shortlisted for the Frontline category last month. On top of her extraordinary year-round work, Debbie saved the life of a woman who overdosed in Brighton last year. She gave chest compressions and called emergency services who delivered life-saving Naloxone. We shouldn’t be surprised – Debbie was given a commendation in December for saving another woman’s life on the beach. Debbie is so humble and downplays her actions. At the ceremony she praised her team of Night Safety Marshals - security staff who work with Sussex Police to help vulnerable people. They're an amazing team, and Debbie – you’re a hero.

On your marks... Get set… WOOF! 💨 Some of Sussex and Surrey’s finest noses have been at the Paris Paralympics, lending a paw to keep the venues safe. PC Beverly Webber was one of our experienced explosive search dog handlers – there with PD Paddy. She said it was a privilege to represent UK policing at one of the biggest sporting events in the world. PDs Paddy, Hudson and Lemmy were in tennis ball Heaven at Roland Garros and stayed on the starting line at the Stade de France. Any race would surely have a fur-to finish?! A round of a-paws for all involved!
