Dynamo's Summer Summit hosted Google's Caroline Golin, PhD, Global Head of Energy Markets Development & Innovation, who sat with Brad Ford, Executive Vice President, Nucor Corporation, and Doug Cannon, President & CEO of NV Energy, for a moderated panel discussion led by James Havlock, Vice President of Growth and Strategy, Dynamo Energy Hub, on this very topic. This panel session entitled, Bridging the Gap: Strategies to Increase Access to Carbon-Free Energy, explored how both Nucor and NV Energy struck groundbreaking deals with the tech giant to advance the adoption of technologies for clean energy resources. This new Clean Transition Tariff (CTT) is paving the way for companies to move forward with emerging technology solutions. This new rate structure would allow large customers to pay a higher rate for power from emerging technologies like geothermal or long-duration energy storage – and avoid passing costs on to ratepayers. In order to decarbonise most sectors of the economy we will need to #electrify everything but the rapid adoption of #renewable energy sources, the electrification of transportation and heating, and the proliferation of distributed energy resources is placing strain on our grids. We need more grid capacity to meet this new demand, and new technologies to be able to manage the technical challenges of a fully renewable grid.
