Thanks to Craig McGlashan for inviting me to discuss the outlook for private equity in Central Europe in 2024 in PE Hub Europe. Our view is that the prospects for the region in terms of new investments are very good: 🔹 Private equity is one of only a small number of available routes to obtain financing for entrepreneurs and management teams; public markets are limited and raising debt is a challenge. 🔹 A limited pool of investors with capital to invest should translate into lower company valuations. 🔹 During economic uncertainty, it is vital that companies make strategic moves in order to ensure their survival and development – therefore consolidation through M&A, expansion into foreign markets and other activities to build competitive advantage are likely to grow in importance. The Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) just held its annual board meeting. It was also attended by Karen Ellemann, Secretary General of The Nordic Council of Ministers and The Nordic Council and representatives of the Latvian government. Why is this bank and its activities important for the people of Latvia? ✅ Firstly, because Latvia is one of the owners of NIB together with all 5 Nordic countries and the other Baltic States. ✅ Secondly, through this bank Latvian companies have access to loans for projects in their own country. Several large-scale projects have already been implemented and more are in the pipeline. ✅ Thirdly, supporting local projects that are in line with the Nordic green course is beneficial for two reasons: better future and quality of life for the people of Latvia AND strengthening the notion of Latvia and the Nordic countries together with the two other Baltic countries being one unified region.   Through shared efforts, we can navigate the complexities of our time, creating a shared prosperous and sustainable future.
